The aim of this four-year full-time (six-year part-time) research programme is the generation of a contribution to knowledge and understanding in Fine Art by means of an inquiry conducted through studio research and, where relevant, other research methods.

The Higher Diploma in Art & Ecology is the equivalent to the Post Baccalaureate in North America, and is known informally as the ‘Post Bac’. This one-year course is designed for students who wish to develop their artistic practice through engaging with ecology, earth systems and environmental change. Through fine art practice, students investigate how social and earth ecologies coexist within the unique context of the Burren. Students are assisted in finding their voices as ecologically oriented artists and are prepared for application to, and potential enrolment in, an MA / MFA programme. The Post Bac in Art & Ecology is also applicable for students who have a degree in a subject other than fine art and who wish to transfer onto a fine art educational track by progressing to an MA/MFA programme.

The MFA in Art & Ecology provides an immersive education in the development of professional practice as an ecologically oriented artist.

The four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts has US accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). This program offers a conservatory and holistic approach to the performing arts, one that not only concentrates on performance from a participatory perspective (that is to say, on being a performer), but also prepares students for the wide and exciting range of careers available in the performing arts industry.

At the University of Limerick, we deliver an Arts Degree which is flexible and wide-ranging, offering 16 subjects in all. You can study a combination of subjects (as Single Honours or Joint Honours) from across the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences: from familiar arts subjects such as English, French, German, or History, to newer subjects such as, Digital Culture and Communications or Linguistics with TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). The UL curriculum is unique as it includes cooperative education/work experience and a study abroad placement as compulsory elements of the degree. Developed in direct response to industry demand, the animation courses at Pulse College offer a stimulating insight into, and exploration of, the technical and creative skills involved in the diverse forms of animation involved in screen media that range from Hollywood blockbusters, to smaller productions and children’s cartoons.

The Master of Arts in Film and Creative Media (90 ECTS, NFQ Level 9) is an innovative specialised programme designed for practitioners and new entrants to the creative industries. The programme provides an exciting creative space within which to develop creative skills, knowledge and experience, and build up a strong portfolio of high-quality creative work in and across selected creative areas.

Technological transformation continues to have a disruptive impact on the film and creative media sector. As production and commercial roles change, this creates the need for a combination of creative, digital and entrepreneurial skills. The BA (Hons) in Film and Creative Media (Level 8, 180 ECTS) programme provides students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in conventional and new media, by combining traditional communication and media production skills such as photography and video production, with high-level training in multimedia production, processes and design.
