What does your studies involve?
The Finnish nursing degree is highly valued and provides good opportunities for working and being employed also internationally. The goal of the education is to train health care professionals to promote and maintain health, to prevent illnesses and to promote quality of life in the population. Evidence-based nursing care is implemented to comprehensively meet the needs of clients and patients of all ages. Nursing education gives you qualifications to work as an expert in different areas of health care, e.g. in primary health care, hospital, private services, third sector organisations or as an entrepreneur. You will be able to get also knowledge, and skills to work independently and in different multiprofessional/international teams.
As a nurse you will master the comprehensive and advanced knowledge of your own field, which includes critical understanding and evaluation of the theories, central concepts, methods and principles. You will understand the scope and limits of professional duties and/or discipline and you will be capable of decision-making in unpredictable environments. Besides being responsible for the evaluation and development of own’s professional competence, as a nurse you will be responsible for the development and nursing care of individuals and groups. You will also achieve knowledge on how to communicate both orally and in writing in English and Finnish.
You can read more about the studies in the programme in the curriculum.
Our graduate students have given good feedback on the quality of teaching, teaching arrangements and the professional skills of the teachers in the degree programme in nursing.
The decision on the tuition fees is based on the change of law on universities of applied sciences, which obligates the universities of applied sciences to collect a fee from the degree students who come from outside the EU/EEA area. The tuition fee for an academic year will be 9500 euros for students who come from outside the EU/EEA area. More information of the tuition fee and scholarships in Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, you will find on our webpage.
The main language of the degree programme is English. If one’s native language is not Finnish, Finnish language is studied during the studies. In addition, students are offered Finnish as elective studies. Part of the studies will be implemented both in English and Finnish. During your studies you have possibility to co-operate also with Finnish language degree programme students.
Students will study Finnish language in accordance with the curriculum to achieve the Finnish language skills needed in clinical practices and nursing profession. Language proficiency skills can be demonstrated by separate language proficiency tests. Tests are arranged by the state administration or by general language proficiency tests.
