Introduction
Bachelor's Degree in Energy Engineering
Energy is one of the main strategic sectors worldwide, accounting for 6% of world GDP. However, more important is the multiplier effect of the energy sector in other industrial sectors and its overall impact on society. In particular, the industry related to renewable energy and energy efficiency is developing rapidly, due to growing concerns about the depletion of fossil fuels and the impact on the environment of classic power/heat generation technologies. These policies have been promoted in Europe by the EU initiative known as “20-20-20”, which sets as an objective for 2020, to reduce CO2 emissions by 20%, reaching 20% of energy consumption from primary renewable energy sources and increasing in the same percentage the energy consumption efficiency.
This means a radical transformation of the current energy environment, for which trained professionals who can solve these problems and develop strategies in this direction are required. All this reinforces the high demand for professionals with expertise in renewable and conventional energy, energy efficiency and efficient consumption management.Graduates in Energy Engineering must have a solid foundation in the basic math and physics disciplines, advanced knowledge in several branches of industrial engineering, and, specific updated skills in energy generation/consumption technologies and in economic management of firms and markets in this sector.
