Study a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering in the Netherlands
The Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s programme develops professionals who are both creative and innovative. During the programme, students participate in applied research through product analysis and design. They learn to improve existing devices and develop new appliances, products and services, for various areas like the industry, healthcare, robotics and energy. By the time students have completed the programme, they possess a vast amount of technical knowledge plus a broad spectrum of professional skills and entrepreneurial experience.
Mechanical Engineering is a three-year bachelor’s programme that consists of an introductory year and a two-year main phase. The curriculum includes theoretical classes and a wide range of practical labs. Equipped with the knowledge from the classes and labs, you will work on project assignments where you will design working prototypes and improve existing devices with fellow students. Demonstrating your prototypes and presenting the design- and building process are crucial parts of the curriculum. During the programme, special attention will be given to energy-related matters from a mechanical engineering point of view.

Admission requirements
To be admitted to the programme you need to be in possession of a secondary school degree, which is the equivalent of the Dutch VWO diploma (higher national/international secondary school level or International Baccalaureate) with high grades in Mathematics and Physics. Because the programme is taught in English, you may have to prove your English language proficiency, depending on your educational background and nationality.

Tuition
2022-2023
- EU/EEA students: € 1,105* (2022-2023, amount will increase slightly each year)
- Non-EU/EEA students: € 7,900
* The tuition fee for the first year. For subsequent years, the annual amount is around €2,209. If you are an EU student starting a bachelor's programme at Hanze UAS, Groningen in September 2022 and it is the first study programme in higher education you apply for, you pay half of the tuition fee (for the first year only). For subsequent years, students pay the full statutory tuition fee.

Continuing studies
After successful completion of the bachelor’s programme, you can choose to continue your studies with a master’s programme. Our Institute of Engineering offers several international master’s programmes, including the European Master in Renewable Energy.
Career paths
Many of our graduates will choose to work in areas where the emphasis lies on technical engineering. Other career options include becoming a Technical Advisor, Project Leader
or Academic Researcher. You may even use your acquired entrepreneurial skills to launch your own business.
