During your study program
As the name indicates, CMGT will teach you everything you want to know about creative media and game technologies. In the first year, you can experiment with different roles and choose the one that is best suited for you. Depending on your preference you will either move in the direction of interactive media in general or specialize in games.

Curriculum
Have you already completed at least a three- or four-year degree which is similar to Creative Media and Game Technologies? If so, you could be eligible for the short-degree program. You will find specific details of the entry requirements for this program under requirements.
Depending on your previous education, you can complete the short degree program in either one or two years. At the end of the process, you receive a full bachelor’s certificate.
The one-year short degree program for Creative Media and Game Technologies is divided into two periods. In the first half year, you study degree-related subjects, work on projects, and draw up your learning plan. This period looks like this:
- Compression assessment and compressed topics of CMGT (5 ECTS)
- Project (5 ECTS)
- Research (5 ECTS)
- Specialization – personal individual focus subjects (3 X 5 ECTS)
Credits
Degrees in The Netherlands are based around the credit system (ECTS). What are credits? You are awarded several credits for each assignment, exam, and traineeship that you complete. Each credit is equivalent to a study load of 28 hours. You are expected to obtain 60 credits during the short degree program, which means that this academic year is equivalent to a study load of 1,680 hours. This should give you a reasonably clear idea of the amount of time involved in completing your degree successfully.
CMGT is structured around the three most important professional roles in the field:
- Artist
The Artist is a talented illusionist. The most important task an artist has is to create content that excites the user. - Experience Designer
The Experience Designer is the creative jack-of-all-trades who invents and develops experiences that create value for the user. - Engineer
The Engineer is a realist who is great at seeing and creating structure. He is especially good at the technical realization of interactive media and games.
The Second Part of Your Course
Prepare for graduation
In your fourth year, you will start with Project Immersive Technologies and Storytelling. Together with a team of other CMGT students, you will experiment in our XR lab to create something awesome for a real client. In the second half of the fourth year, you will prepare for graduation by designing and developing an interactive solution or game for an organization.

With your qualifications, you can choose from a wide range of professions such as:
Concept artist
A concept artist is a designer who visualizes and creates art like characters, creatures, vehicles, and environments for games, movies, and creative media. Concept art is used to visualize ideas so that modelers, animators, and VFX teams can get these ideas ready for production.
Visual Effects Artist
Visual Effects (VFX) Artists and supervisors create special effects and animation and do a visual clean-up for feature films and commercials. He or she has strong artistic skills and an understanding of the technical constraints on the target platforms.
User Experience Designer
User Experience (UX) Designers design software and games that are user-friendly, intuitive, and rewarding. In this role, you should be an analytical and creative designer who can grasp user needs and solve problems.
Virtual Reality Developer
Virtual Reality Developers realize the creative potential of a game or experience with their engineering skills, in tools like Unity for example. They tackle problems like latency or integration of VR in multiple platforms.
Game Engineer
Gaming engineers are specialized software engineers who design and program video games. They do tasks like programming, multi-platform realization, and troubleshooting of the finished product.
