As one of the largest graduate programs of its kind in the country, Emerson College’s on-campus Theatre Education & Applied Theatre MA and MFA programs prepare you to use theatre to create learning experiences that transform lives and communities. Housed in the Department of Performing Arts in the School of the Arts, the programs allow you to grow and refine your craft as an artist and an educator. Coursework focuses on principles like social justice, anti-racism, and youth-led activism. The Art and Visual Culture MA is part of the Cultural and Literary Studies Suite, a cluster of four MAs that bring together academics, curators and practitioners who share a commitment to investigating modern and contemporary culture from aesthetic, critical, literary, and experiential perspectives. You'll share classes with students from the Cultural and Critical Studies MA, the English Literature: Modern and Contemporary Fictions MA, and the Museum, Galleries and Contemporary Culture MA, joining a fruitful and intellectually-rigorous environment designed to facilitate the sprouting of interdisciplinary thinking. As part of our Suite, you may also choose an option module from the other three MA programmes (what is referred to as an ‘elective’ module), a fantastic opportunity to explore a facet of culture outside of your chosen MA programme. The Art and Visual Culture MA is an interdisciplinary, visual theory-based course established around the belief that visual literacy and the impact of visual forms of thinking and working play significant roles in our society. In the course, we interrogate visual perception and representation in high and popular culture, explore how these produce meanings, and how such meanings shape societies and individuals.

The MA in Classical Art and Archaeology course offers you the opportunity to study Greek and Roman art and archaeology at one of the largest Classics departments in the UK. The course is intercollegiate with options taught at King’s, UCL and Royal Holloway and you can take advantage of our close links to the Institute of Classical Studies, one of the UK’s best Classical libraries.

The MA in Contemporary Art Theory is for those with a special interest in contemporary art, and an aptitude for theoretical work in the subject.

John Cabot University’s MA in Art History guides students toward professional mastery of the materials and methods of art history with an emphasis on first-hand research in the museums, monuments, and archaeological sites of Rome.

The Art History MA degree is designed to give students an advanced understanding of western art history. The program offers specializations in ancient art, medieval art, renaissance art, baroque art, 18th and 19th-century art, and pre-war modern art. The art historical curriculum is paired with six credits of fine art studio classes, which allow our students to become familiar with traditional methods of fine art production including painting, printmaking, and sculpture. This marriage of art history and fine art studies offers a perspective through which art and its historical trajectory can be uniquely evaluated and appreciated. Students will complete their degree by writing an M.A. thesis, with the support and advisement of an Art History faculty member. The MA in Art Law and Arts Management Program is being offered by the School of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Economics of the University Center of International Programs of Studies of the International Hellenic University. The program aims at exploring and highlighting the functional interdependence between art law and arts management. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the legal, financial, and political considerations and the corresponding regulatory approaches implemented in Europe and elsewhere concerning the creation of digital works of art, the art trade, the operation of the markets concerned, the function of intellectual property law at the EU and international level, the protection of cultural heritage and protection against unlawfully acquired works of art.
