The Voice courses at Central are nationally and internationally renowned, giving a specialized education in the study and practice of the spoken voice. These courses are for graduates of appropriate disciplines who wish to follow a career in voice teaching and who seek specialized study and practice in voice and speech. Students will study with internationally renowned voice tutors and professionals, learn pedagogical skills for the teaching of voice on this world-leading course and network with actors, accent coaches, speech therapists and singers and undertake education and industry placements.

Elevate your career in the performing arts with the NUS one-year Master of Arts (Theatre and Performance Studies). This programme blends academic rigor with industry insights, offering hands-on learning in traditional and contemporary theatre and performance. Gain critical thinking, research, and digital skills from globally recognized experts, preparing you for roles in arts education, cultural leadership, and beyond.

This Master's programme offers two specializations: one in Popular Music, Sound and Media Cultures and another in Theatre, Culture and Media studies. Each specialization encompasses both emergent and historically established practices in music and theatre and the performing arts.

Take time and space to develop your artistic voice by joining our MA Performance and Theatre Making. Firmly embedded in Kent’s thriving creative landscape, this course is aimed at graduates from theatre and performing arts degrees and other related subjects, as well as artists in theatre/performance who wish to take some time to develop or re-connect with their practice.

As one of the largest graduate programs of its kind in the country, Emerson College’s on-campus Theatre Education & Applied Theatre MA and MFA programs prepare you to use theatre to create learning experiences that transform lives and communities. Housed in the Department of Performing Arts in the School of the Arts, the programs allow you to grow and refine your craft as an artist and an educator. Coursework focuses on principles like social justice, anti-racism, and youth-led activism. We offer three graduate programs, an MA in Theatre Education & Applied Theatre, an MA in Theatre Education: Licensure, and an MFA in Theatre Education & Applied Theatre.

As an active participant in the MA or MFA Advanced Theatre Practice, you will participate in workshops with leading professionals, learn to research and extend your own practice, launch a company, make new work, and, on the MA, take this to an audience beyond Central. Students will also extend the roles of performer, director, writer, designer, dramaturg, puppeteer, musician, artist, or creative thinker in new and unexpected ways and build on the tradition of theatre-making as a communicative medium of exchange, i.e. through working with digital media. MFA students also have excellent opportunities to work for with a number of distinguished external companies.

Central graduates have become successful producers, among them Sir Cameron Mackintosh and David Jubb. Students will undertake masterclasses in producing with key industry leaders and innovators, and take an active role in the organization of events, productions and projects, underpinned by a solid understanding of the cultural industries, creative producing, and theory and research in the field. Creative producers work with artists to create performances and festivals, run venues and companies, manage projects, raise funds and investment, and negotiate commissions. While learning, students will also gain a career head start by building a vital network of industry and peer contacts.

This course provides an opportunity to explore applied theatre via one of two specialist pathways: Drama in the Community and Drama Education or Drama and the Criminal Justice System. Each pathway is designed to support current practice at work, or a particular field of interest in applied theatre and drama. Students will develop their own practice and scholarship, learn key practices in applied theatre, engage with new ideas in the field, undertake project-based study examining specific professional work with a range of client groups, or specialize in working with people whose lives have been affected by the criminal justice system. The course receives substantial support from The Leverhulme Trust.
