Student lifestyle
We can proudly say that Zagreb is well known as a university city - more than 10% of its entire population are students. More than 8,000 teachers and around 70,000 students study at the University of Zagreb, which is the largest and most influential Croatian university. Therefore Zagreb has many things to offer for a great student lifestyle experience, through regularly organized concerts, parties, plenty of bars and nightclubs.
The Student Union, whose members are all the students of the University of Zagreb, takes care of activities and issues of general importance for students, especially those related to curriculum, issues concerning student life, sport activities, culture, and entertainment. Erasmus Student Network Zagreb is a student organization based on a principle “student helping student“, with a mission to help international students in Zagreb by providing information and organizing various sports, cultural, educational and entertaining events to make them feel at home.
Apart from the many cultural attractions that Zagreb has to offer, such as the Old Town, the Cathedral, National Theatre, or a number of museums and concert halls, there are various types of street events, food festivals, and outdoor concerts that take place throughout the year in the city parks and squares. Every year, one event, in particular, takes over the entire city center - the Christmas market, voted the best Christmas market in Europe three years in a row.
Croatia is famous for its wonderful nature, crystal clear Adriatic Sea, great food and wine, and many other hidden gems. There are two particular "pearls" on the coast - the town of Rovinj in the north, located on the Istrian peninsula, and the town of Dubrovnik at the southern end, recently made famous as the citadel from Game of Thrones!
Accommodation
International students have to organize accommodation on their own, i.e. look for private rental accommodation. Zagreb is very friendly towards the student population and there are many accommodation options throughout the city. You can either rent the apartment or a room, or you can even share it with the roommate. Price range is between 200 and 500 EUR per month, depending on location, room size, facility etc. Overhead expenses are sometimes included in the price, and sometimes are paid by the consumer.
The best way to find accommodation is to search for different offers on the web-portals. Some of them are in Croatian only, but they usually have photos of apartments and contact email so may send an inquiry. Before choosing a flat, you might need to spend some time in a youth hostel, you have plenty of choice for such a type of affordable temporary accommodation in Zagreb.

I chose Croatia because it is my mother's country (unfortunately I don't speak Croatian). It is a country that is close to my heart and that I wanted to discover even more. The FER is one of the most famous schools in Croatia, so I chose it. Moreover, I had good feedback about Zagreb and the FER from some school colleagues.
