Key Summary
Introduction
Nowadays, it is almost impossible to come across an engineering field that is not related to information processing. An unprecedented level of importance that information has in modern societies is mainly due to the rapid development of communication technology.
Exchanging data between heterogeneous players, from humans, through autonomous cars to robots, is the fundamental prerequisite for any kind of cooperative activities. This would not be possible without sophisticated data processing and communication systems. Clearly, the information goes hand in hand with communication technology, so these areas are merged into the master study program Information and Communication Technologies.
Robotics as a multidisciplinary scientific and technological field comprises a variety of domains, such as automation, computer science, mechanics, biomechanics, sensors communication, actuation, and many others. This master programme aims to train a new generation of engineers who will develop new applications and tools to expand the capabilities of field and service robots in the near future. The technology behind the development of these systems comes from different research areas such as artificial intelligence, computer vision, control, autonomy, machine learning, and others, all of them under fast-paced evolution in the current digital revolution.
Research, innovation, and teamwork are crucial in determining the engineering progress and the development of new technologies. Selected students will have an opportunity to participate in leading EU-funded research projects during their studies.
High emphasis is placed on practical skills and early career development during the study. The study programme also facilitates the development of soft engineering skills through the set of transversal courses, which complement engineering education with an additional set of skills that are necessary to form an engineer as a complete person.

How will your study look like in practice?
Study programme MSc in Robotics at FER covers a wide range of areas, from the control of reusable energy sources to autonomous robotic systems and the application of artificial intelligence. Our doors are open to our students and we encourage work and learning in a friendly atmosphere. Students have the opportunity to expand their theoretical knowledge by working on lab exercises, as well as on our scientific projects through seminars, projects, and theses.
If you are interested in the control of smart buildings, you can try it on the FER skyscraper, the top of which, in addition to a great view, also has its own wind turbine, all within LARES laboratory. Are you interested in drones? Our students and professors in LARICS program them to open valves and deliver packages. Do you dream of controlling a robot on Mars? You are going to learn how to process and analyze data from various sensors, such as cameras, LiDAR sensors, sonars (underwater and ground), IMUs, GPSs, etc. Mobile robotics is the subject of several LAMOR and LARICS projects, and it has its own course. If you are more of a marine type interested in marine robotics, LABUST is the laboratory for you. Organic farming is the future - in several projects you can see what role robots play there.
Career Opportunities
Career opportunities
FER alumni are highly appreciated professionals not only in Croatia but also in high-tech companies in different sectors worldwide. FER actively cooperates with more than 450 companies, including some of the most significant high-tech companies from Croatia but also all over the world. Both students and companies benefit from this network that provides an opportunity to connect the best matching talents with industry needs even before students finish their studies.
Because of the broad knowledge they gain during their studies, students that finish our MSc in Robotics thrive in the job market. The emphasis in teaching is set on the development of analytical thinking skills and solving complex problems, which enable the fast advancement of our former students in their work teams. Jobs range from a development engineer for robotic systems or automation systems to leading roles responsible for controlling complex technical and non-technical systems.
Students are offered early career guidance through the services of Career Centre, which helps students to connect with employers through the organization of various networking events, such as Job Fair and Career Speed Dating.
Students are highly encouraged to participate in an internship programme to gain a competitive edge on the labour market while still studying.
As a faculty with traditionally highly appreciated research components on an international level, students can also take a part in more than 250 international and national R&D projects, both scientific research and industry collaboration projects, that run at FER every year.
For students with startup aspirations, a student-friendly startup incubator is a right place to visit and explore new horizons.
