Key Summary

About: The Bachelor of Science in Computing at FER trains students to analyze and solve engineering problems, collaborate in teams, and design computing systems. It blends mathematics, physics and electrical engineering with modern computing tools. The programme treats the computer as a universal data processing machine, covering theory, design, application and operation with emphasis on artificial intelligence, data science, bioinformatics and software engineering.

Career Outcomes: FER alumni are valued; FER partners with 450+ companies and runs Career Center, job fairs, internships, R&D projects and a startup incubator. Graduates enter roles such as software developer, data scientist, AI engineer, systems engineer, bioinformatics analyst.

Bachelor study programme Computing develops competencies to analyze and solve various engineering problems, to work as an efficient member of a team, and to contribute to the design of systems and processes in the area of computing. The fundamental knowledge of mathematics, physics, and electrical engineering is backed up with the usage of contemporary computer tools.

The principal object of study in Computing is the computer as a universal data processing machine, together with the methods of its application in diverse areas. Computing encompasses the theory, methods of analysis and synthesis, design and construction, application, and operation of computer systems. High emphasis is placed on practical skills and early career development during the study. While the first two years of study focus to teach students a common set of skills required by an engineer in the field of computing through a carefully prepared set of required courses, the last year of study offer a large selection of elective courses that will give students an opportunity to gain specific knowledge and competencies in the fields of:

  • artificial intelligence
  • bioinformatic
  • communication technologie
  • computer architecture
  • data science
  • image processing
  • multimedia system
  • robotic
  • software engineering

If they wish to further broaden their expertise in specific fields, after finishing Bachelor study programme students will be well prepared to enrol master study programmes in computing at any university worldwide, including the possibility to continue their education by taking Master study programme at FER.

The study programme also puts a high emphasis on the development of soft engineering skills through the set of transversal courses, which complement basic engineering education with an additional set of skills that are necessary to form an engineer as a complete person.
