Mälardalen University has more than 20,000 students studying Business, Health, Music and Opera, Engineering and Education. The university conducts research within all fields of education and the areas Future Energy and Embedded Systems are internationally outstanding. Mälardalen University is located on both sides of Lake Mälaren in the cities of Eskilstuna and Västerås, both situated about an hour from central Stockholm.
Mälardalen University is a relatively young university, established in 1977. In just a few years the University has developed from a regional university of technology into a broad academy and a powerful driving force in the region. Students benefit from modern and pleasant facilities and an experienced faculty.
The University is organized in four schools, where all education and research is carried out.
- School of Health, Care and Social Welfare (HVV)
- School of Business, Society and Engineering (EST)
- School of Innovation, Design and Engineering (IDT)
- School of Education, Culture and Communication (UKK)

The student life is what you want it to be. The variety of activities on and around the campuses is vast although depending on the season. Some examples are beach volleyball tournaments in the spring and summer, board games or parties indoors or building snowmen or skiing in the fall and winter.

Although Mälardalen University does not have any apartments of its own, we cooperate closely with accommodation agencies and inform them about admitted students.
The majority of our programmes and courses in English are given at Campus Västerås and many of the teachers/professors/faculty members you will encounter during your studies at MDH are based there. This in combination with the active international student association makes most international students choose to stay in Västerås. As a service to you we have made arrangements with the local accommodation agency Bostad Västerås to make it easier for you to apply for housing.
In Västerås you can choose between corridor style apartments with a shared kitchen, or apartments that have a private bathroom and kitchen. Many of the apartments are located conveniently close to the University. There are both furnished and unfurnished alternatives to choose from.
