East Central University's online B.A. in Native American Studies gives you applied social science tools, training and immersive experience to make a positive impact working with tribal communities. By obtaining their BA in English and American Studies, students will possess a wide range of skills and knowledge a thorough understanding of the English language and of English-speaking peoples and cultures worldwide, a high level of competence in the English language meeting the competency requirements of both the Written and Oral parts of the Advanced Level State Proficiency Examination, familiarity with basic research- and study techniques within the field of English Studies, the ability to translate a variety of non-field-specific texts in an intelligent manner.

The aim of the English and American Studies BA is to train experts who have a proficient command of the English language and have profound knowledge regarding English-speaking cultures.

Why study this program in Groningen? The Bachelor in American Studies at UG is the only program of its kind in the Netherlands. Because we're a freestanding program (not part of the History or English Departments), every course is designed to look at America from multiple angles. Faculty experts in fields like political history, literature and media, religious studies, and Latin American culture will help you to form your own views on America and the world. In our small seminars and close-knit intellectual community, you can learn and challenge yourself with the help of classmates, faculty, and our knowledgeable Study Advisor. Also, with our network of partner institutions, you can spend a semester working on your BA and experiencing American culture and politics first-hand in a United States city like Orlando or Charleston, or at a leading university in Canada or Mexico.

The program in English and American Studies was founded at our university in 1993.

BA in English and American Studies aims to develop high-level competence in English, an understanding of the structure and communicative requirements of English, knowledge about the literature and culture of English-speaking countries, as well as an openness and ability to cope with linguistic variety that characterises English as a Lingua Franca in global communication.

The program is offered by the School of English and American Studies. The program can be completed either as a major or a minor program, the latter is only available for students who study in other major programs at ELTE. Students taking the program as a major opt for either the English or the American track at the end of the first term. The three-year-long program does not provide teaching qualifications.
