Program content

First year

Experiment and Inspiration

In the first year, the focus is on experiment and short assignments. This helps you develop a critical attitude and your own work routine. You learn the basis of video, film, photography, storyboard, audio editing and video installation. In short workshops, you practise your technical skills such as stop-motion, analogue photography, the development of film and the use of editing software. In the theory classes, you read texts, watch films and look at artworks and discuss the conceptual aspects of image, media, perception and technology.

Second and third year

Projects and Research

From the second year, you are gradually given more scope to initiate, develop and implement projects. In these creative phases, you think up and reconsider your concepts, get feedback and present your ideas. You also find partners such as actors and other professionals from the work field to implement your plans and plan, produce and edit your work. During practical workshops, you develop your skills further in cinematography, acting, interviewing, directing, VR and sound design.

In the theory classes, the focus is on moving image and editing. The subjects Research, Authorship Methods and Creative Process help you define your interests and encourage you to think about your own work in preparation for your dissertation.

In the third year, you work on your portfolio. You use this to find an exchange place or internship or to start your own project.

Fourth year

Graduation

In the final year, you write your dissertation and complete your graduation project. The courses that you do in your exam year provide insight into the different professional openings in the field of moving image. During the exam year, you have individual meetings with your mentors and group presentations with your peers. You finish your portfolio and come into contact with relevant experts and professionals from the Moving Image network. During the AKI ArtEZ Finals exhibition, you present your graduation work and dissertation.
