The Master course in Applied Marine Biology (MAMB) at the University of Aveiro is taught by a team of internationally trained academics. It has excellent teaching and research facilities including ecology and molecular biology laboratories, infrastructures for experimentation and maintenance of living organisms, and it also benefits from the proximity of a natural laboratory, the Ria de Aveiro. The Master’s degree aims to train marine biologists with the skills needed for understanding key processes and patterns in marine and coastal ecosystems, for the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources, and for the development of methods and technologies for the breeding of economically relevant commercial species. The knowledge of Biology acquired during the Bachelor will be deepened with course units on evolutionary processes; reproductive strategies; adaptation, morphological and functional plasticity; genetics; molecular biology; marine ecology and conservation; climate changes and other anthropogenic impacts on the environment; experimental design and data analysis.

In our Master’s program in Marine Biology, you will learn about the rich marine ecosystems in the Baltic sea and oceans beyond. The program aims to provide an in-depth theoretical background in marine ecology along with applied practical training, to give you a range of skills and a competitive edge.

With this Master's degree, the aim is to acquire advanced, specialized and multidisciplinary training, aimed at knowing the current state of research in the field of marine biology.

Designed for students passionate about Biodiversity and Ecosystems, the Coastal and Marine Biology and Ecology (CMBE). The course delivers qualified education on fundamental and applied biological and ecological marine sciences, integrating eScience and more traditional approaches with the aim of understanding the fundamental ecological mechanisms underlying phenomena occurring at various scales in coastal, transitional, and marine ecosystems.

The inter-university master's degree has a double objective: to provide basic and advanced knowledge for professionals in tasks related to Marine Biology, and to train research personnel to be incorporated into scientific centers or research teams from public, private or companies.

The educational objectives of the course Master in Marine Biology and Ecology aim to train a highly qualified and specialized professional figure capable of facing environmental problems with a strongly biological approach, but at the same time able to embrace all the ecological processes that are the basis of the production of goods and services that the marine environment offers to society.

International Master in Marine Biological Resources covers a wide, yet consistent, range of subjects related to the sustainable use of marine biological resources. With an emphasis on marine biological and ecological processes, the programme links the biology of marine organisms and environmental studies with subjects in marine policy and planning.

The Marine Biotechnology program at UiT’s the Norwegian College of Fishery Science aims to educate candidates in the broad field of biotechnology with emphasis on application to marine systems or “Blue Biotechnology”. Students become well prepared for careers in industry and/or research because of our joint focus on innovation and fundamental scientific principles placed between biology and engineering. Students receive one-on-one mentorship and supervision from a professional UiT researcher and typically join an established research group to complete their final project.

This MSc in Marine Ecosystem Management provides students with a superior understanding of marine systems, exploring the interconnections between the physical environment, biodiversity, and the impacts of human activities. Taught by leading experts from the Scottish Oceans Institute, it is designed to prepare students for professional careers in research and management.

This joint Masters programme in Marine Biotechnology is an integrated multidisciplinary programme offered within the framework of one of the first transnational European universities. The programme provides the student with a high-quality academic education, building professional competences in the area of marine biotechnology (also called blue biotechnology) and helping to address its global challenges.

MAR-BIO is a research-based Master's program combining competence from different Nordic countries to educate next-generation professionals within the area of blue growth and marine circular economy. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the students gain insight into the interaction between Fisheries, Aquaculture, Environment, Law, Management, Production and Utilisation of Marine Bio-resources.
