16 Law MA Degree Programs

The aim of this programme is for students to gain academic and intellectual progression in a number of areas of law and criminal justice, together with the acquisition of specific knowledge and skills. Within the context of the University's mission statement and responsiveness to national and international needs, curriculum innovation and continuous quality enhancement, the programme objectives are to provide students with the knowledge and critical analysis of key themes of law and criminal justice; provide advanced legal knowledge and skills directly relevant to law and criminal justice through the delivery of intellectually stimulating course content underpinned in many areas by internationally recognised research; provide critical analysis of the complexities arising in the fields of law and criminal justice using challenging and informing global and comparative perspectives. The course is underpinned by the significance of engagement with existing and emerging research and advanced scholarship. Develop originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in the discipline. Alternative Exit/ Interim Award Learning Outcomes - Postgraduate Certificate A student who is eligible for this award will be able to: Show originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry may be used to create and interpret knowledge in relevant areas of law. Have a systematic understanding and critical awareness of current problems and contemporary issues and/or insights into the changing nature of the UK and international corporate business organisations operating within a multi-national framework. Demonstrate skills associated with problem-solving and decision making based on own research and analysis demonstrated through legal writing and communication skills. Develop an ability to exercise initiative when faced with novel and/or complex problem situations. Apply critical and analytical skills associated with legal analysis to identified scenarios and situations.

In addition to a foundation in law and diplomacy, as well as economics, business, politics, and history, the Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy: International Development and Economics is STEM-designated. It equips students with advanced quantitative skills in economics and econometrics, empowering them to address global economic challenges through specialized coursework.

The MA Law is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in any discipline who aspire to pursue a legal career. It is similar to a ‘Graduate LLB’ or a 'Law Conversion Course (GDL)' but studied over two years providing a greater depth of study and comprehensive legal grounding. Students who have completed this programme can proceed to the professional stage of legal training with the advantage of gaining a Master’s level postgraduate law degree.

Our new MA Law (SQE1) is a law conversion course and includes our SQE1 Preparation Course, which prepares students for the SQE1 assessments. The course is designed for non-law graduates who want to qualify as a solicitor and gain a legal qualification at Master’s level.

Our Master of Arts in Law conversion course is a specially designed postgraduate degree for non-law graduates who want to gain a general legal qualification at Master’s level. As an internationally recognised qualification, a Law Master’s is a great addition to your portfolio. With a strong level of support from the start, this course is a great introduction to law if you hold an undergraduate degree in another discipline. Successful completion of the MA Law (Conversion) qualifies you to progress on to study the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) to become a solicitor or the Bar Practice Course (BPC) to become a barrister.

The two-year programme focuses on the study of canon law and provides an introduction into the law of other religions (comparative law) and the study of capita selecta. The skills obtained will be applied during the internship and improved through personal research. This general experience will be reflected in a research paper.

Our law program enables you to specialize either in business law or law and technology. Business law covers the main areas of law related to business and the economy with a focus on digital market issues and regulations such as Fintech, Global Trade and Transnational Law, Online Commercial Law, Competition Law, and Labour Law.
