Introduction

The Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) is a leading structure of Politecnico di Torino working in the fields of:

Technologies for the protection, conservation, and management of the land and environment
Sustainable management of natural resources
Optimized and eco-compatible development of infrastructures and transport systems

The department stands out for its multicultural and multidisciplinary approach, as it coordinates and manages 13 scientific-disciplinary sectors, corresponding to as many research areas in the field of applied sciences (e.g. environmental protection and job safety, remediation of contaminated sites, assessment of the impact of anthropic activities on the environment, water resources management, hydraulics and fluid mechanics, design of tunnels, mines and deposits of subterranean fluids, transport infrastructures).

DIATI is an active member of seven interdepartmental research centres and fosters collaboration between various technological and scientific fields, as well as researchers coming from different cultural areas. More than 36% of our department’s publications in scientific journals feature a foreign co-author from another university.

Since 2018, DIATI has been awarded the title of Department of Excellence by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, with a project that qualifies the department as the international benchmark on innovative strategies of climate change monitoring and assessment, as well as on the development of innovative adaptation and mitigation technologies.

The satisfaction rate of our Master's students for the degree program amounts to 90,7%; 86,1% of our Master's graduates would enroll again at Politecnico di Torino, among them, 74,3% would enroll in the same degree program, while 11,8% would choose another program (*Source: Almalaurea 2021).

Campus Features

Campuses of the Politecnico di Torino draw inspiration from the structure of Anglo-Saxon ones, with multipurpose buildings for teaching, basis and applied research and services to the students in Turin, and a regional network of technological centers (Alessandria, Biella, Mondovì, Verrès), dedicated to research activities, technological transfer, specialist education and services to the region.

The historical and representative base of the Politecnico is in the town, on the River Po: the Castle of Valentino, a House of Savoy of the 17th Century. It is the main teaching campus for Architecture and has an area of 23,000 sq. m.

The big complex in Corso Duca degli Abruzzi - with 122,000 sq. m., the main campus of Engineering - was opened in 1958 and it is completed by the Cittadella Politecnica: a modern complex of 170,000 sq. m. adjoining the main building, including areas dedicated to students, research activities, technological transfer, and services.

The newest campus is the Design and Sustainable Mobility Citadel, in an area adjoining the manufacturing establishment of Mirafiori, the Fiat manufacturing facility which has been remodeled as well as the Lingotto building, which hosts the Master School.

Admissions

Bachelor's degree programmes - Admissions

All Bachelor’s degree programmes offered by Politecnico are capped to a limited number of students decided by the academic bodies of the University every year.

Prospective students must take a test, called TIL (Test di Ingresso online/Online Admission Test) for admission to:

All programmes in the engineering area
Design and communication
Territorial, urban, environmental and landscape planning
Industrial manufacturing technologies.

Master's degree programmes - Admissions

Admissions to the Master's degree programmes offered by Politecnico are not subject to a selection process, except for the following programs which are regulated by specific calls for applications:

Master's degree programmes in Industrial Production Engineering;
Master's degree programme in Technological Innovation;
international major of the Master's degree programmes in Physics of Complex Systems and Nanotechnologies for ICTs.

Single courses enrolment

You can enrol in single subjects (courses) at Politecnico di Torino without enrolling in an entire degree programme ending with an academic degree, provided that you meet the requirements prescribed by the law.

Single course enrolment is possible in the following cases:

for open competitive exams, professional updating and requalification;
for students enrolled at a non-Italian university;
to make up for any unfulfilled academic requirements for admission to a Master’s degree programme at Politecnico;
for students who do not have the English language certificate (B2 level) required for admission to a Master's degree programme at Politecnico.

Double enrolment in two study courses

As a general rule, students are allowed to be simultaneously enrolled in two higher education courses at two different universities and institutions for higher education in art, music and dance (AFAM), both in Italy and abroad. But with some limitations. Find out more.
