The Kogod School of Business (Kogod) was established in 1955.

Over the years, Kogod has leveraged American University’s strong reputation to provide many opportunities for students interested in the nexus of private business and public service, giving access to a variety of organizations in the vicinity. In 1979, the school was named after alumnus Robert P. Kogod, a successful real estate developer, in recognition of his generous support. David Marchick has served as dean of Kogod since August 2022.

Admissions

  • Your account will provide access to your online application along with a personalized information page throughout the admissions process.

  • Submit your application and the $100 USD non-refundable application fee, unless you qualify for an application fee waiver. Once you submit your application, your responses will remain final, but you can still access your personalized information page to check on missing items. International Applicants

American University and the Kogod School of Business are pleased to welcome international students for graduate study. Our online business programs allow students from around the world to study the same curriculum as those who attend on-campus, and learn from the same American University faculty.

Coursework for our online business programs can be completed 24/7 from any Internet-enabled device, and students can select from a range of course times to help best fit our renowned degree programs into their lives. To enhance the interactive experience, our program requires synchronous live sessions that are scheduled between 5 to 11 p.m. Eastern time. This allows students to engage with their peers and esteemed faculty in real-time, no matter their location in the world.

English Proficiency Requirements

  • Applicants whose native language is not English and who do not meet the English Proficiency Test Waiver requirements outlined below must demonstrate English language proficiency through completion of one of the accepted tests within the last two years.
  • If an English proficiency test score is required, the application will not be marked complete until a test score meeting the requirements is received.
  • TOEFL (minimum score of 100)
  • IELTS (minimum score of 7)
  • Duolingo (minimum score of 120)

Visa Requirements

International students admitted to the program who need a visa to study at American University will be required to complete and submit the CFIS Form or Immigration Transfer Form along with documentation of financial support. Submission of either document is not required to be considered for admission; however, admitted students planning to enroll will need to submit the documentation to initiate the issuance of the I-20.
