AMCI Scholarships

The Moroccan Agency of International Cooperation (AMCI) offers scholarships to foreign students for various academic levels in Moroccan public institutions, fostering international bonds.

ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to high-achieving candidates at different academic levels. For undergraduates, applicants need a high school diploma from 2018 or 2017 with grades "Very Good," "Good," or "Fairly Good." Age requirements vary between 19 and 23. Master's candidates must have a bachelor's degree (bac+3) in the relevant field with a "Good" grade. Ph.D. applicants need a recognized Master's degree.

AWARD: Recipients will be awarded 750 Dirhams per month, approximately U.S $75, for a 12-month period per academic year. Additional support for printing theses expenses is available for Master's or Ph.D. graduates.

Margaret McNamara Education Grants - South Africa

The Margaret McNamara Education Grant was set in motion to commemorate Margaret Craig McNamara, a female activist who wanted to invest in women’s education as a means of reducing poverty and stimulating economic growth. MMEG awards education grants to exceptional women from developing countries who are at least 25 years old.

ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to females that are studying either part-time or full-time at one of the 25 eligible universities in South Africa. For the list of universities, click 'Learn more about this scholarship.' 

AWARD: In past years, grants of up to US$7,000 have been awarded in South Africa. Grant amounts may vary, based on exchange rates and availability of funds.

Mandela Rhodes Scholarship

The Mandela Rhodes Foundation was created with the purpose of building strong leadership in Africa. Since 2005, this scholarship has provided excellent educational and training opportunities to help create a network of well-rounded leaders across the continent.

ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to citizens from all African countries who are enrolled in postgraduate programs at South African universities or tertiary universities. Applicants must be between the ages of 19 and 29 and possess an undergraduate degree with excellent academic results (above 70% or upper-second class Honors).

AWARD: Recipients will be awarded either full coverage of a one-year Honors degree or full coverage of a two-year Master's degree. This coverage includes tuition and registration fees, allowances for study materials, research, health insurance, accommodation, meals, personal allowances, and economy-class travel.

Fulbright Scholarships- South Africa

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English teaching assistant programs. During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with, and learn from the people of the host country in order to promote mutual understanding through direct engagement in the community.

ELIGIBILITY: These scholarships are open to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals who hold an excellent academic record, possess strong leadership skills, and have a high sense of social commitment. Further eligibility varies depending on the scholarship.

AWARD: Recipients will be awarded round-trip international airfare, a monthly stipend based on the cost of living in the host country, health insurance, and assistance in the visa application process. Additional benefits depend on the scholarship.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

The University of Cape Town has partnered with the Mastercard Foundation in order to provide academically talented young people from economically disadvantaged communities in Africa with access to quality university education.

ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to citizens of all African countries who are academically talented, economically disadvantaged, committed to giving back, and committed to embracing ethical leadership and making a positive change in their home communities. Further eligibility varies between the undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

AWARD: Recipients will be awarded 100% fee waivers for their tuition, travel, living expenses, medical aid, and accommodation.

University of Cape Town International and Refugee Scholarships

The University of Cape Town offers scholarships each year to international and refugee students pursuing Honors, Master, or Doctoral degrees. These scholarships were put in place to relieve students of financial burden, thus making them free to pursue higher education.

ELIGIBILITY: Eligibility varies between programs.

AWARD: Honors recipients will be awarded R25,000, Masters recipients R30,000, and Doctoral recipients R35,000. This money is renewable annually if applicants maintain satisfactory academic scores.

University of Witwatersbrand Scholarships

The University of Witwatersbrand offers several scholarships to help financially support its talented students. These scholarships are based on academic merit and are very competitive, so other external scholarships are also listed on the website for students to consider.

AWARD: Recipient awards range between R3,000 and R110,000 depending on the scholarship.

Boren Scholarships

The Boren Awards fund the intensive study of language and culture abroad by U.S. undergraduate or graduate students. All eligible applicants have the option to either apply for a Regional Flagship Language Initiative or select/design their own study program.

ELIGIBILITY: These scholarships are open to U.S. citizens planning an overseas program in one of the selected countries. (South Africa is listed). Further eligibility varies depending on undergraduate Boren Scholars and graduate Boren Fellows.

AWARD: Recipient awards range between $8,000 and $25,000 USD depending on the chosen program.

Masters Degree in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa Scholarship

The University of Pretoria offers this prestigious one-year intensive course, where 25-30 exceptional individuals will spend six months at Pretoria and six months at one of their 12 partner universities located across Africa. The students will be taught by eminent lecturers in the field of human rights and undergo many practical training exercises.

ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to citizens of all African countries who possess either a first degree in Law or an Honors degree relevant to Human Rights and democratization, also a weighted average of at least 65% at the final-year level.

AWARD: Recipients will be awarded 100% fee waivers for tuition, accommodation and program activities.
