Launched ten years ago as the University of Cumbria, we are founded on the experience and tradition of well over 150 years of higher education, and are the product of the amalgamation of St Martin’s College, Charlotte Mason College and Cumbria Institute of the Arts.
WE HAVE FIVE CAMPUSES: Carlisle (Brampton Road and Fusehill Street), Lancaster, Ambleside and London Take your pick! Our five unique campuses are predominantly based in and around the Lake District; the Lakes town of Ambleside and the historical and cultural cities of Carlisle to the north and Lancaster to the south, plus a location in the UK’s capital city London. We are the only university to have a campus at the centre of one of the UK’s most famous and popular areas of natural beauty; the Lake District.
WE ARE GROWING
We are hugely proud of our heritage and the outstanding achievements we have made over the past ten years. Now home to more than 9,000 students, our reputation is strong nationally and internationally. Our research portfolio was recognised in Times Higher Education’s Research Excellence Framework this year, where we climbed 17 places and increased the amount of our research to either ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent.’ We already have many national awards to our name, are home to the National School of Forestry, and are the top new university in the North West for educating health professionals.
