Introduction
Master of Accounting and Finance (MAccFin)
This 12-month qualification will enable accounting and finance students to learn advanced financial and analytical skills. By using the latest technology and investigating current complex problems, students will be better prepared to enter the workforce with critical thinking, research, and advanced technical skills.
The Master of Accounting and Finance (MAccFin) is open to strong students with an undergraduate degree in Accountancy and Finance, or a major in Accountancy with a minor in Finance.
This additional year of post-graduate study before embarking on the Chartered Accountant pathway will set students up for graduate roles in tax, audit, consulting, transaction advisory, risk advisory, and actuarial services.

Curriculum
- Every Program of study shall consist of approved papers from the schedule of papers available for the degree of Master of Accounting and Finance to the value of 180 points
- With prior approval from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce), papers worth up to a maximum of 60 points in a relevant subject offered by another tertiary institution, may be granted transfer credit for equivalent paper(s) within the Program. Such credits will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- A candidate and the supervisor shall, before commencing the applied or research project, secure the approval of the Program Co-ordinator for the proposed topic.

Career Opportunities
The range of careers in finance is wide and varied, and well-paid. Graduates work in planning and budgeting, portfolio management, investments, securities, trading, risk management and foreign currency trading. They are employed by government departments, the education sector, banks, insurance companies, investment banks, accounting firms, stockbroking firms and many others.Because a Finance degree is relevant to economic structures worldwide, it is highly exportable. There are many job opportunities overseas, and Otago graduates compete well in international markets.

Applicants must apply online. They should also attach all the necessary supporting documents which includes scanned copies of their official high school or foundation transcripts (awards gained, marks, grades); scanned copies of the relevant official transcripts of previous university study; and provide proof of their identity this is usually achieved by providing a certified copy of the personal details page of their passport or a birth certificate (in English). Applicants may also be required to submit an Educational Credential Evaluators report (ECE). As soon as applicants have completed their online application, their proof of identity document must be posted to International Office, University of Otago, PO Box 56, Dunedin 9054, New Zealand. International student applications for semester 1/summer school study close: Oct-31; Semester 2 study close: Apr-30.
