Introduction
Ancient civilizations laid the foundations of the modern world and shaped how we perceive all elements of our society, including power, sexuality, ethics, migration, identity, globalization, and religion.
Studying Classical and Archaeological Studies at Kent allows you to explore a broad thematic and chronological range of topics from the Minoan and Mycenean periods, up to classical Greece, Republican Rome, and early Christianity.
In your first year, you take introductory modules on archaeology and the civilizations of Greece and Rome. You also have the opportunity to study beginner Latin or Greek, classical literature and mythology, Mediterranean empires, and local archaeology.
In your second and third years, you can study literature from Greece, Rome, and early Christianity, and the history of these civilizations as well as the Celts and Byzantium. It is also possible to take a fieldwork practice module where you discover the latest techniques. In your final year, you complete a dissertation or extended essay on a subject of your choice, supported by a supervisor.
