Introduction
The Specializing Master's program (1st level) in Technologies for International Development Cooperation is a pioneering academic venture, born from the joint efforts of the Turin School of Development of the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO) and the Politecnico di Torino. Politecnico di Torino is among the top European Technical Universities for education and research, with a key role in Innovation and Technological transfer, and a strong commitment to knowledge sharing to produce an impact on a complex and rapidly changing society. ITC-ILO, as part of the ILO, is dedicated to exploring the frontiers of the future of work. It delivers development-oriented Courses and Masters in an international environment, in collaboration with the United Nations system and other centers of excellence across the globe.
PARTICIPANTS’ PROFILE
The Master is addressed to project managers, officers, experts in Multilateral Cooperation and International Affairs, entrepreneurs, professionals and researchers in international organizations and sector-specific associations, aiming to broaden and enhance their knowledge and skills in managing complex projects, integrating new technologies, and leading high-impact initiatives. It uses state-of-the-art technology to prepare them to tackle complex global challenges and transform innovative ideas into tangible, real-world solutions. At the heart of the joint program is the intersection of technological innovation, global development, and international cooperation.
The curriculum aims to strategically address the growing need for knowledge and expertise on emerging technologies, their potential to trigger change, and the impacts of their implementation on all dimensions of sustainability at the global level. The essence of the program lies in the belief that technology can be a powerful tool to foster positive global change, promote inclusive development, and advance global development cooperation.
The program combines aspects of vision, approach, and method, with technical-scientific ones, focusing on five thematic areas (and their intersections) which are considered strategic in the transition towards just and sustainable development:
- Land and agriculture
- Energy and green transition
- Urban innovation
- Digital technologies
- Health and social security
The course carefully balances theoretical knowledge with practical application, encouraging students to interact, discuss real case studies, and engage critically. This program is not just an academic journey, but a commitment to join a global community focused on international development, offering unique opportunities to interact with cutting-edge technologies and a vibrant network of experts, professionals, and academics.
Methodology
The Master's program is a one-year intensive blended-learning offering, consisting of one distance learning and five classroom-taught modules. In order to minimize disruption of the participants’ ongoing job obligations at home, full classroom attendance is mandatory for only ten weeks of the programme in person.
The Master merges theoretical and practical learning methodologies that are designed to engage and motivate students. The unique learning path offered by this program ensures an extraordinary transfer of knowledge and practical competencies with a multidisciplinary and applied approach.
Participants interact with their environment through a hands-on learning experience, which includes case studies, workshops, active visits to research centers and labs, group work, and policy laboratories.
