Introduction
Biomedical technology for the benefit of human health
In-depth knowledge and practical skills in cell technology, cell and tissue models, and tissue engineering for regenerative medicine.
Hands-on skills in the crossroads of molecular biology, cell technology, and biomedical informatics
Biomedical technology is a multidisciplinary field that builds on understanding biological systems on the molecular level and develops new approaches to advance medical and biotechnological applications. The program brings together expertise and methods in many fields in natural, medical, and engineering sciences: biology, chemistry, medicine, genetics, statistics, and computational and data sciences.
When applying to the Master's Programme in Biomedical Technology (MSc), you may choose from the following three options:
- Biomedical Informatics (natural sciences)
- Cell Technology
- Molecular Biology
Our target group is students with a background in biosciences, computational sciences, or natural sciences who want to attain in-depth knowledge and hands-on skills in the crossroads of molecular biology, cell technology, and biomedical informatics, with a special emphasis on areas that have the potential to enhance human health. The courses are firmly grounded in international research and focus on transferring this knowledge into practice.
Cell Technology
In cell technology specialization the focus is on human development, tissue biology, and cell technologies with a specific focus on human stem cell-based applications. After completing the program, you have a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical basis of cell technology and tissue engineering as well as strong methodological expertise in cell technology and you can successfully work and communicate as an academic expert in your field of expertise in a multidisciplinary work environment.
Collaboration
The program offers you a unique learning environment that combines biosciences and technology with a specific focus on health. The study options are flexible and the teaching groups are small. During the studies, you will build networks and interact with our world-class research teams that provide many practical training opportunities. As our graduate, you may work as an academic specialist within scientific research or teaching, or in research and development.
We collaborate closely with the Finnish-taught program and the international engineering program in the field of biomedical sciences offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology, the Master's Programme in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering (MSc Tech), which has four specialization options:
- Medical Physics and Biomedical Instrumentation
- Biomedical Informatics (engineering)
- Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering
- Biomedical Micro- and Nanodevices
Welcome to our multidisciplinary, multinational expert community of biomedical sciences!
Admissions
Scholarships and Funding
Tampere University tuition fee scholarships
Tampere University tuition fee scholarships awarded at admission cover 100% of the tuition fees for the program duration. The program duration is
- three years for Bachelor’s degrees
- two years for Master’s degrees
- five years if the study right is granted for both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree.
Finland Scholarship
Finland scholarships awarded by Tampere University are part of the national Finland Scholarship program. Applicants to Master's programs are eligible to apply. Finland scholarships are awarded at Tampere University to the most merited applicant in each Master's program.
Finland scholarships cover the program tuition fee for the first year of studies and include a 5000 € relocation grant, paid to the student's Finnish bank account after the student has arrived in Tampere and started studies at Tampere University.
In addition, Tampere University awards a Tampere University tuition fee scholarship for the second year of studies to all recipients of the Finland scholarship. The scholarship covers 100 % of tuition fees in the second year of studies.
Early bird offer
In addition to scholarships, an early bird offer is available at admission to all fee-paying students, excluding students who have been awarded a Tampere University tuition fee scholarship or a Finland scholarship at admission. The early bird offer gives a 50 % reduction on the program tuition fee during the first year of studies.
Students may take advantage of the early bird offer by accepting the offered study place and paying 50% of the first-year tuition fee within two weeks after receiving information on admission.
This offer is valid only for the first year of studies. During consecutive years of study, all fee-paying students are eligible to apply for Tampere University Scholarships awarded during studies.
