Introduction
Fitness and Health Promotion
This program prepares students to perform the roles and responsibilities of a fitness and health consultant. Fitness and health consultants promote and deliver a wide variety of services, including activity and educational programs, which enhance the health, fitness and well-being of individuals and groups in diverse settings.The curriculum focuses on three main areas established by the Provincial Vocational Standards: Exercise Design and Prescription, Health Promotion and Administration, and Human Relations and Self-Development. Exercise Design and Prescription deals with kinesiology fitness assessment, exercise prescription, program design, instruction and support of individuals in appropriate activities to meet a wide range of objectives and goals. Health Promotion and Administration concentrates on planning, promotion, provision and management of safe and effective programs using professional business practices, organizational skills and resources. Human Relations and Self-Development involves development of leadership ability and performance, communication and interpersonal skills as applied to the motivation and counselling of others.

If you’re interested in furthering your studies, the health and fitness course will also give you a great foundation to pursue a degree in kinesiology or nutrition
There are also several articulation in place that give you a head-start on a university degree or a second college diploma
One of the transfer agreements is with Hartpury College in gloucester, England. This opportunity will enable Fanshawe college fitness and health promotion graduates to earn a bachelor's degree in sports studies in just one year of studies after graduating from Fanshawe college

There is a wide spectrum of potential employers in the fitness industry for graduates (i.e., not-for-profit centres, commercial gyms, police applicant testing, workplace wellness corporations, and performance-based specialized fitness studios). Graduates find employment creating supportive environments for physical activity and enhancing fitness within the general population and at agencies dedicated for youth, older adults, athletes, and other special populations
