Criminology
We're fascinated by crime. Turn on the television or search for something online and you'll soon encounter images, reports and Programs about crime, justice and punishment. Crime saturates media and popular culture, suggesting both ourenduring fascination with wrongdoing and its consequences, and crime's status asan ongoing social problem.
But, what'sthe story behind these representations of crime? Criminologyexplores the causes, motivations and patterns of criminal conduct. In addition to improving our knowledge and understanding of crime, Criminology also informs policies and practices in policing, law, criminal justice and punishment.
Withour Criminology degree, you'll study crime from a variety of approaches, gain practical and relevant experience, and developa range of transferable skillsthat you can take intoa range of careers and employment sectors.
Law
This degree develops your legal knowledge, research and professional skills. You'll gain a broad understanding of legal systems and criminal law, and expand your knowledge to topics such as EU law, punishment and penology, and cybercrime.
So that you can hit the ground running when you graduate, we've built career planning into each strand of the course, with a focus on the growing number of roles that require related skill sets. These include roles in governance, risk management, advocacy, public policy, HR and finance.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes
Criminology
- Systematic knowledge and understanding of the central disciplinary concepts and issues relating to crime, deviance, justice, punishment and victimisation and how these are constituted in social, political, legal, cultural, economic, technological and spatial contexts
- Systematic knowledge of theoretical perspectives and debates in criminology and how their development over time has shaped criminology as a multidisciplinary enterprise
- Systematic understanding of methods used in criminological research, challenges in measuring crime and the social and political frameworks in which knowledge about crime is produced
- Ability to apply a range theoretical and methodological tools to investigate criminological problems and generate, evaluate, interpret and critically reflect on quantitative and qualitative data on crime, victimisation and criminal justice
Law
- Sources of law: To systematically understand the range, limitation and uses of and primary and literary sources of/on law and, through evaluation, select and precisely use these
- Foundations of legal knowledge: To critically understand multiple fields of contemporary law and their practical application through systematic study, from institutional, local, national and international perspectives
- The context and interrelationships of law: T o evaluate the complex interrelationships of law with society-at-large.
- Legal and non-legal remedies: To diagnostically and evaluatively problemsolve, and identify and recommend routes to dispute resolution, including through projects.
