The Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy (PEP) provides a flexible curriculum for advanced training in pharmaceutical economics and policy, and pharmacy administration. Focus areas of the Master of Science program include pharmaceutical economics and policy, global drug policy, pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research, health epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, and pharmacy management.

Our program offers numerous benefits to help position our students for future success. All of our PhD students are fully funded, including tuition remission and stipend, for up to five years through teaching and research assistantships or competitive fellowships.  Many of our students participate in internships that offer real-world experience and networking opportunities in industry, policy analysis and consulting.

This course attempts to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and basic economic arguments that are at the heart of health system financing. It provides a brief introduction to the conceptual clarity of health economics with emphasis on practical application to health financing and understanding how health resources are generated, pooled and used. It examines the main financing models of the health system, including health insurance, and their implications for the structure, planning and delivery of services. The course includes 4 modules: i) Principles of economics and health economics, ii) Health market, iii) Health services and resources, and iv) Health care financing. Under each module, there are 3 units and under each unit, 5 description themes. A student will thus have a broad understanding of health economics and its different aspects.

The Master of Health Science (MHS) in Health Economics and Outcomes Research is offered by the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. The MHS in Health Economics and Outcomes Research is a nine-month academic program that offers students a foundation in evaluation methods necessary to promote the efficient and equitable allocation of healthcare resources in public health. Mastering these methods enables the graduates of the MHS program to evaluate healthcare and work with stakeholders and decision-makers to identify relevant regulatory policies, strategies, and interventions. Graduates of this program are well-positioned to pursue careers in academia, government, and industry. The Master of Health Science (MHS) in Global Health Economics is a 9-month academic program that teaches students how to use economic tools to help solve pressing global health problems. Through this degree program, students will learn how health economic principles are used to address global issues such as migration, displaced persons, climate change and pandemics. They’ll also learn how health economics can be used to promote healthy lifestyles, positive health outcomes, and equitable access to care. Using applied health cases from around the world, students will learn how to conduct economic evaluations of health programs and how to evaluate the impact of social problems on the health of a community or population.
