Latin American Studies is an interdisciplinary academic program that focuses on the culture, history, politics, and society of Latin America, which includes Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

With the large number of current and prospective students interested in health and medicine, this minor will provide a structure for how STEM fields intersect with social science and the humanities. Students, specifically students interested in healthcare, need to understand that the challenges in healthcare and society are complex problems that require an interdisciplinary approach. The minor will pair well with majors both in and outside of Division III (including Business, Politics and Foreign Languages) and will allow students to develop and demonstrate an understanding of health and medicine in the global community.

Humanities, the only courses required of every student at Centre College, represents an integral part of the Centre Experience and of a full and rich education in the liberal arts.

The Mathematics Program seeks to give students an understanding and appreciation of the beauty and utility of mathematics. Quantitative and analytic skills are increasingly important in biology, economics, and the social sciences, as well as in engineering and the physical sciences.

The chemical physics program often has prepared students for graduate study and subsequent careers in research and academe. In this program, students receive a solid theoretical background in the physical sciences.

The anthropology and sociology program is at the forefront of interdisciplinary and global studies at the Centre. We offer students a range of choices in planning their anthropology/ sociology major. The program includes core courses in anthropological and sociological research methods and theoretical perspectives, culminating in an advanced seminar.

Whatever motivation might bring a student into the Jones Visual Arts Center, an appreciation for the enduring values of art provides solid support for the life of any educated and inquisitive person. Members of the art program believe that an understanding of various forms of the visual arts—both traditional and innovative—enhances our experience and enjoyment of our surroundings, especially its aesthetic aspects, and that art can provide greater meaning to the lives of those seeking to come to terms with it.

Behavioral neuroscience (BNS) is a multidisciplinary science that encompasses a wide variety of scientific pursuits. The field is unified around the common goal of investigating and understanding the biological basis of behavior and cognition.

The business major builds on the liberal arts tradition of Centre College to prepare the next generation of thoughtful and responsible business leaders.

The subject of classical studies is the study of ancient Greece and Rome. This includes architecture, art, history, literature, mythology, philosophy, religion, and science.

The study of French is more than the study of language. It is the immersion into the rich and varied culture of the Francophone world through coursework and study abroad.

German Studies’ mission is to enhance students’ ability to speak, understand, read, and write German; to function well in a German-speaking environment; and to become enlightened, knowledgeable students of the culture of the German-speaking world.

The Economics and Finance Program at the Centre integrates a broad background in economics with finance fundamentals. the program offers a major (but no minor) within a liberal arts educational philosophy.

Our program draws from expertise in the fields of anthropology, gender studies, history, language and literature, music and the performing arts, international studies, and sociology. In doing so, we address critical questions concerning cultural and intellectual production, gender, race, ethnicity, diversity, empowerment, global justice, and systemic violence.

Media taught include drawing, oil painting, photography & digital media, ceramics, and hot glass. The major in studio art culminates in a senior exhibition held in the AEGON Gallery located in the Jones Visual Arts Center.
