Founded in 1993, the Department of Tourism is one of the earliest-established tourism departments in Anhui Province. It offers three undergraduate specialties, i.e., Tourism Management, Hospitality Management and Human Geography, Urban and Rural Planning, and one college degree program, Tourism Management (Sino- Korean 1.5+1.5 program). The department now has more than 1000 enrolled students and a faculty of 34, including 13 professors and associate professors, 1 Provincial Outstanding Teacher, and more than 10 foreign visiting professors.

The TourismManagement Program with specialization in tourism services management and international tour guides has eight full-time faculty members, with three professors and two associate professors. The Program has an internship studio and a simulated travel services company named Hera, which is run independently by the students. In addition to classroom lectures, the Program provides students with opportunities for on-site learning and global travel promotion training. IT-based information management systems for travel agencies and hotels are being introduced to the Program. The student exchange program in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire (UClan) in Britain allows students to have an enriching international learning experience. Faculty members also involve students in their research projects based on students' specific academic interests to advance their research skills and broaden their horizons. The students have received many prizes, awards, and honors, such as the Grand Prize in the National EnglishContest and the Third Prize in the Challenge Cup of the NationalEntrepreneurial Design Competition contested by university students nationwide. The Program strives to become a preeminent think tank providing expert policy advice to tourism authorities in Shanghai and beyond. Graduates from the Tourism Management Program have good employment prospects, and some choose to further their studies in domestic and overseas universities, for example, in 2011, many students have admitted to master's programs in renowned universities such as BeijingUniversity, Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance andEconomics, University of Central Lancashire, and Swiss HotelManagement School.
