10 Theology and Divinity Degree Programs in Kenya

The Degree in Bible and Theology is designed to equip and develop biblically and theologically sound scholars with relevant skills and competencies to effectively serve God in the context of church and community.

This is a 3-year program designed to provide integrated training for those entering the pastorate in diverse situations, including missionary service, church education ministries, teaching in theological institutions and other related types of Christian service. The program draws from various divisions of the theological disciplines, thus allowing the program to give the student the option to concentrate on one area of emphasis or specialization. Students in the program can pursue any one of the following emphases: Biblical Studies, Christian Education, Church History, Missions, Pastoral, Theological and Translation Studies. On the other hand, a student can pursue a general area of study without taking any emphasis.

This is a 2-year program that seeks to give students sound evangelical graduate-level theological education within the African context and to prepare them for ministry in the Church, Para-church organizations, and teaching careers in theological institutions in Africa and beyond. The program lays a foundation for the Christian faith and aims at preparing and providing foundational theological knowledge, competencies, and skills to enable the student to be an effective minister and teacher of the Christian faith.

The Ph.D. in Theological studies recognizes that most of the challenges facing the church in Africa – and beyond – are theological in nature.

The Master of Arts in Biblical Theology program seeks to produce hermeneutically sound Biblical scholars and researchers who accurately interpret scripture and employ critical and creative skills to bridge the gap between the Ancient Near East and the contemporary world thus, able to communicate the message of scripture in every sphere of the society.

The Master of Arts in Pentecostal and Charismatic Studies program equips scholars to adequately investigate and document Pentecostal and Charismatic phenomena in Global South.

This is a 2-year program designed to prepare students for a more effective ministry through a foundational biblical education. At the end of the course of study, a student should be able to: Demonstrate competence in the fields of biblical and theological studies; Display a broad understanding of biblical language; Exhibit competence in the exegesis and exposition of the Old and New Testaments and relate that competence to African realities; Acquire necessary skills for further scholarly studies in the field of Old or New Testament and Demonstrate Christian maturity expressed in commitment to Christ, to His Body and interpersonal sensitivity in character and lifestyle displayed in communal relationships.

This is a two-year program aimed at helping students to Outline the history of Christianity up to 1500 AD. Interpret the history of the church since 1500 AD and discuss its implications for Christian life and ministry today. Describe the key developments in African Christian history and show how this history has shaped the African Christian context in which he or she will live and work. Exhibit a deeper understanding of the growth, maturation, and characteristics of the earliest African Christian communities in Egypt, North Africa, Nubia, and Ethiopia. Explain the interplay between theology and spirituality down through history; among others.

The Transformational Church Leadership Program is designed to produce a church leadership that is equipped to affect positive spiritual and socio-economic transformation of the church and the community through the church.

The Ph.D. in MFT is an advanced course of the MA in Marriage and Family Therapy. The program is grounded in a Christian worldview that presents a holistic perspective of human nature including physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social aspects of maturation.
