In the Material Art & Design program, you will learn how to create jewellery, textiles and ceramics as a professional studio artist or designer.

The Seasonal School will introduce participants to the urgent topic of textile-based robotics, providing them with interdisciplinary tools to design robots based on textiles, how to leverage the unique properties of these materials to devise wearable and non-wearable robotic tools, and for the understanding of their role in human empowerment, combining engineering, biomechanical, clinical, and regulatory aspects.

The aim of the Master's Program in Textile Design - Innovation - Sustainability is to train professionals with such characteristics. The program offers cultural, technological, strategic, and design knowledge in the textile sector and provides collaborations with experts and companies of the world-renowned textile district of Como.

In Textile Design we educate design collaborators who are well-grounded to work in teams that reach beyond the discipline’s own boundaries, for example with industry in general, architects, the fashion industry and others who work with visual narratives.

In the MFA Textile Design program, courses hone students’ knowledge of industry standards, combining design excellence with the mastery of the latest digital tools, and furthering their knowledge of textile printing techniques and fabric manipulation. Their thesis project culminates in the production of a portfolio of textile design that exhibits their original voice and individual aesthetic. Some students may collaborate with fashion or knitwear majors for the graduate show in New York during Fashion Week.

Specialising in Textile Interaction Design involves exploring and developing textiles that interact with and adapt to their surroundings as well as to bodies, actions, humans, and other species. This specialisation delves into questions and issues related to textile interaction from a wide range of perspectives, including environmental, ethical, technical, and cultural considerations.

We're witnessing a shift in the design and fashion scene towards sustainability, shaking up how we see things and transforming the way we design them. As a student of the Master of Arts in Textile Design - Eco-Threads: Materials and Circularity, you'll actively contribute to numerous multidisciplinary projects.

This programme will give you an overview of the fundamentals of textiles and fashion to build upon your existing degree in topics like business administration, industrial economy, textile engineering, textile design, and fashion design. This will provide interdisciplinary and multicultural perspectives on the challenges related to working towards sustainable textiles and fashion. The Master of Arts in Fashion and Textile Design is proposed as a research and experimental laboratory in which to study and develop, in collaboration with manufacturing industries and professionals in the sector, the design of innovative, sustainable, intelligent fashion collections that combine together the different creative processes (concepts of design and patterns, prints and threads, study of fibres, dying and embroidery, printing and weaving techniques) in relation to their technical characteristics, end-use destination and marketing.

From fabric burnout to photographic screen printing to computer–assisted print designs, students in the BFA Textile Design program design and print on both fabric and paper using various print techniques and fabric manipulation. Students develop their drawing and color skills in course work that combines excellence in design, artistic vision, and innovative technology to provide students with the skills necessary to realize their creative visions fully. Students are encouraged to participate in industry competitions and internships. Senior students may collaborate with other fashion design or knitwear majors to produce a runway collection for the annual San Francisco Fashion Show.
