At the Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics (CING) we encourage our students to embark on the journey of Biotechnology, making a difference and a positive contribution to science and society. Biotechnology is undoubtedly important for its implications in various sectors of everyday life, utilizing cellular and bio-molecular processes that pave the way for the generation of cutting-edge new technologies and products that help improve life and nature in general. In particular, Biotechnology is the technology that uses living microorganisms to develop or create different products. Examples include the use of yeast in cheese and bread making, and the use of viral vectors for the creation of human vaccines (ie SARS-CoV-2 vaccine). Overall, recent advances in Biotechnology had a positive impact on the production of healthy food, improvement of the medical sector, reducing the world’s environmental footprint, and reducing the rate of infectious diseases. As a result, Biotechnology is widely considered to be the engine of the global economy in the 21st century.

The MSc in Data Science program brings together the expertise of three departments in the University of Cyprus – Business and Public Administration, Computer Science, and Mathematics and Statistics – to prepare the next generation of data-oriented thinkers.

MSc in High-Performance Computing and Machine Learning is a unique course in Cyprus (former Simulation and Data Science MSc) that combines computational modelling, large-scale simulations, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and their applications across disciplines.

The main objective of the Master of Science in Computer Engineering/Master of Engineering in Computer Engineering program is to educate and train in-depth engineers in various fields of computer engineering, who will subsequently be able to solve advanced computer engineering problems using software tools and state-of-the-art equipment. In this problem-solving process, technological constraints and constraints inherent to the problem at hand, both in terms of hardware and software, are taken into account. Since the inception of the computing paradigm, the prevalent metaphor for a computer has been that of a multi-purpose tool, as exemplified by the use of “command lines” and “desktops” at the interface between humans and computers. The unparalleled prevalence of computing-enabled devices in our everyday lives, and the widespread access to information over the Web, suggests a more apt metaphor for a modern computer, that of an assistant. Humans no longer use, but rather collaborate with their devices to solve a cognitive task, with each party learning and adapting to the capabilities of the other. Communication and decision-making happens at a level that is transparent to, and cognitively-compatible with, human abilities and limitations. One no longer speaks of human-computer interaction, but of human-computer symbiosis.

The objective of this Master's program is to train young scientists with up-to-date knowledge and techniques in the fast-growing (and of particular importance for society) field of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. The students are specialized in one of the research areas of the program with the aim to create proper conditions for a successful professional career in the public or private sector, in industry or in research organizations.

The aim of the new MSc Artificial Intelligence programme, starting in September 2022, and which will be delivered in English, is to be a modern programme, containing a strong interdisciplinary element as required by human-centric, explainable, and responsible artificial intelligence.

M.Sc in Security and Defence: In recent years, the Security and Defence fields have attracted a lot of attention due to a globally volatile environment. Regional wars among neighbouring countries tend to affect not only the region in conflict but also inflict global recession in the economy, uncontrolled rise in fuel prices and food insecurity. At the same time, security incidents such as terrorist attacks or regional social upheavals tend to lead to massive migration of citizens from one country to the neighbouring countries or even to another continent thus challenging the sense of security of the local population.

The MSc in Data Analytics for Business program is a gateway to the dynamic intersection of Business and Data Science.This unique degree equips students with the skills to harness the potential of data in solving real-world business challenges and driving informed decision-making.

The BS in Computing and Business Technologies is a modern degree that equips students with the necessary skills to compete and excel in the digital era. All courses are designed with strong practical and hands-on components from day one, making the degree unique.

Computer Engineering is a broad field that covers many diverse areas of study such as computer networks, computational intelligence and robotics, computer hardware systems, embedded and real-time systems, computer software design, operating systems, algorithms, etc. Students and faculty in Computer Engineering also develop synergies with disciplines outside of engineering; for example, with medicine and the life sciences that can lead to education and research in, for instance, biomedical engineering.

The COS program provides highly interdisciplinary training to educate researchers to use advanced computational and data methodologies to solve complex scientific and engineering problems. It provides a unified approach to modeling, high-performance computing and data science, and artificial intelligence-based approaches. Through modeling, simulation, machine learning, and studying specific phenomena, the program delivers cross-disciplinary knowledge and domain-specific depth in fields like fundamental computational physics, climate modeling, computational fluid dynamics, computational biology, materials science, computational economics, and digital cultural heritage. The program provides the necessary educational setting where excellence in education and research is fostered through interdisciplinary collaboration.

The MSc in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and a diverse set of skills required throughout the data analytics lifecycle. It is a unique degree that combines both managerial and technical aspects around the data science field.
