In this course, we will introduce key concepts from the sociology of health and illness to examine the social causes and contexts of disease. We will apply theoretical concepts and frameworks to understand how health and illness are not only biological processes occurring within individuals but also social processes between people, groups, and institutions.

Provides students with an overview of the complex social, economic, political, environmental, and biological factors that structure the origins, consequences, and possible treatments of illness worldwide, as well as the promotion of health. Specifically, we will explore how our experiences with technology affect our psychological well-being and mental health, and the informational well-being of our communities.

Undergraduate Prerequisites: high school algebra. - Fundamentals of logic (the laws of logic, rules of inferences, quantifiers, proofs of theorems). Fundamental principles of counting (permutations, combinations), set theory, relations and functions, graphs, trees, and sorting.

Topics include happiness, empathy, optimism, friendship, goal setting, achievement, emotion, creativity, humor, and mindfulness. Students become familiar with theory and research in this relatively new subfield and critically consider application to their teaching, coaching, leadership, and/or counseling

Focuses on the components of a healthy, well-balanced diet to meet nutritional needs and avoid deficiencies and excesses. The basic concepts discussed include MyPlate, food labeling, recommended nutrient intakes for all age and gender groups, weight management, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and lifecycle nutrition.

It is critical for survival. Pain also serves as a warning against repetitive, harmful behaviors. It's a signal to seek attention and relief since uncontrolled pain can have chronic and debilitating consequences. This course introduces basic pain concepts, pain pathways, and their underlying neurobiology. Topics will incorporate diagnosis, symptoms and presentation, and treatment using pain experts across the medical field-- such as physicians, veterinarians, dentists, and pharmacists. The course will introduce scientists and clinical researchers, and highlight their work.

Normal functioning and pathophysiology of major organ systems: nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, digestive, and endocrine. Additional topics include integrative physiology, clinical case studies, and applications in genomics-based personalized medicine.

This course offers an examination of virtual reality (VR) and digital human representations, focusing on creation, interaction, and applications. Students will explore the multidisciplinary landscape of VR including psychology, computer science, and communication.

Topics: random variables, expectation, variance, probability distributions, the central limit theorem, sampling theory, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals. Correlation, regression, analysis of variance, and nonparametric tests. Introduction to least squares and maximum likelihood estimation. Emphasis is on medical applications.

This introductory course will provide you with a roadmap of modern psychotherapy approaches. No prerequisites are required for this class. By the end of the course, you will be able to describe multiple therapy approaches, including the philosophy and techniques that characterize and differentiate the approaches.
