5 Archaeology Summer Course Programs in Pisa Italy

Since 2021, the Universities of Pisa and Sultan Qaboos have been engaged in a joint archaeological mission at Al-Tikha, within the modern city of Rustaq in the Al-Batinah Governorate of Oman. The Summer School will be held on campus in the archaeological site of Al Tikha, Al Ghashab, Rustaq, Oman, 318.

The Archaeological Field School of Etruscology offers a 10-day academic programme including archaeological excavation activities in the Etruscan necropolis of Colombaie di Volterra, located in northern Tuscany. The excavation carried out since 2016 by the Etruscology Team of the University of Pisa revealed the presence of Late Orientalizing/Early Archaic mounds.

The Summer School in Osteoarchaeology and Paleopathology is an academic program aimed at training students in anthropological and paleopathological laboratory methods. It is an outstanding opportunity for students to gain experience in bioarchaeological investigation by working side-by-side with leading researchers in the field.

This one-week intensive Summer School tackles one of today’s pressing questions: how do we communicate the legacy of ancient cultures to contemporary, global audiences? The program focuses on the content, design, and technologies that shape inclusive museum spaces and texts.

Archaeology deals with the study of the human past, conducted through material remains, i.e. artefacts that were manufactured, used, and discarded in ancient times. One of the most important task is to classify the artefacts, determining chronology, cultural attribution, form, function and other features. Neural networks and deep learning are powerful tools for supporting and facilitating such tasks, often time consuming and heavily depending on prior knowledge and expertise.
