Study in Wales: Entry Requirements for Universities
Learn more about the national application portal for Welsh universities. This section of our study guide covers what you'll need to do when applying.
Undergraduate admissions
For undergraduate admissions, you have a couple of options available. You can apply through:
- The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)
- This option allows you to apply for up to five programs at up to five universities in the UK. You do it through one application form, with a set fee of £26. You should aim to submit your application by the last Wednesday in January though as all applications received by this deadline are considered equally. You apply through UCAS no matter where you want to study in the UK.
- The Common App
- Four of our eight universities in Wales are on the Common App, and you can apply to them by downloading the app.
- Direct Application
- Some universities in Wales allow you to apply to them directly. This is a good option if you only want to apply to one university, and it’s free.
Graduate and postgraduate admissions
For graduate and postgraduate admissions, you need to apply directly to the university. You should check to make sure you meet the minimum entry requirements. This is usually a minimum of a 2.2 degree from a university in the UK (US GPA 2.6) or above.
However, you should always make sure to double-check the requirements on the university's website before you apply.
English Language ability
If English is not your first language, most universities will ask you to prove your English skills. You should check to see the requirements of the university that you’re applying to. Some will offer their own English Language exam, and for others, you might need to take a TOEFL test or the IELTS.
