Luxembourg is part of the EU’s Schengen Area. This means that visa requirements across all twenty-six participating countries are broadly similar. If you're from the EU, the EEA or Switzerland, then you enjoy freedom of movement and can move to Luxembourg without too much hassle. That being said, Luxembourgish visa requirements are no more stringent than those of France or Spain.

Once you've arrived, you must register with the commune where you move to and undergo a medical check before being issued your full student permit. This generally takes about a month.

👉 The residence permit will typically last 1 year and be renewable during your studies. When you arrive, you'll have 3 days to get to your commune at your residence and three months to file an application for a residence permit at the Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. The application fee is €80.

Your student visa allows you to work during your time in Luxembourg. You can work for up to 15 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week (full-time) during the holidays. Your income will be taxed like that of a Luxembourger.
