Study in Israel: Housing & Living Costs
One of the most important factors to consider when studying abroad will be your budget. As a student, it’s important to think about what kind of accommodations you will have, how much travelling you plan to do, and whether you will try and find part-time work. The good news is that international students in Israel are eligible for student housing and discounts at popular sights and attractions.

Some average living costs throughout Israel are:
Meal | 60 NIS ($16 USD) |
Coffee | 12 NIS ($3.50 USD) |
Beer | 30 NIS ($8.50 USD) |
Cinema Ticket | 45 NIS ($12.5 USD) |
Monthly Rent | 2150 - 3600 NIS ($600 - $1,000 USD) |
Monthly Transport | 225 NIS ($62 USD) |
Student accommodation is typically more accessible than private housing. It’s important to consider that some universities will have a limited number of student housing facilities and you may be required to find private accommodation.
Costs will vary depending on location and standard. It’s common for students to find roommates and share the costs of renting an apartment together.
Keep in mind that for the most part, only students who are studying at the master’s, Ph.D., or post-doctoral level are permitted to work within the university and on a part-time basis. Recently, a new High Tech work visa was implemented to allow students and recent graduates (up to 3 years from graduation) from several fields to work during their studies or after. Other bachelor students are not permitted to work, so do not count on obtaining a job while studying in Israel if you’re pursuing a bachelor’s level qualification.
