Program description

Witten/Herdecke University

Master in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics

In contrast to many other master's programs in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Witten/Herdecke University has based this program on the sound academic analysis of real-world problems in an increasingly interconnected world. The challenges facing society go beyond academic disciplines and national boundaries. Because of this, problem scenarios today are difficult to firmly classify and are better met by an interdisciplinary approach.

This more complex society requires people with a general background that combines knowledge economics, politics and philosophy to come up with sustainable solutions for the future. The PPE master's program at Witten was created specifically to prepare students for any career holding a leading position where politics, economics and (civil) society come together.

The program consists of four semesters and offers students a cutting-edge education combining social sciences and philosophy. Students will learn to address the challenges of the 21st century in a globalized world. PPE graduates will be prepared for careers in a range of political and social fields, NGOs, management, further education, personnel and organisation development, economic and political consulting.

PPE alumnus Janis Kluge, Research Division Eastern Europe and Eurasia at Stiftung Wissenschaft & Politik, Berlin
As a foreign policy advisor of the German government, it is my job to make sense of political and economic developments that are deeply intertwined. In Witten, I found the necessary analytical tools and the inspiration to follow my interests across the traditional boundaries of social science.
Diego Tuzman, Alumnus Witten/Herdecke University, Ministry of Social Development Uruguay
As an international student in Witten, I discovered an excellent academic environment and an open-minded university which offers a pluralistic education.
Julian Römer, Student PPE - Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (M. A.)
Life is not about economics and politics alone. Its challenges and contradictions can’t be solely understood by philosophy either. Grasping world processes rather requires a combination of all. Witten expresses exactly this formula and offers me access from diverse perspectives.
