This course will advance student’s skills in the analyzing of qualitative data (e.g. interviews) by using an interpretative approach. This course will help students prepare and transform their findings into a clear and relevant overview, which forms a crucial part of carrying out PhD research. In this course, we aim to enhance the basic knowledge and capability of carrying out qualitative research.
After an introduction of various forms of qualitative research (e.g. ethnographic, semantic, content analysis), and after discussing its strengths and weaknesses, we go into a thoughtful discussion about the actual applicable techniques for carrying out qualitative analysis. We will provide a brief insight into the most crucial steps of qualitative analysis, and subsequently, students will start working with their own data on the basis of the provided principles.
The course will assist students in developing their specific capacities and will enable them to transform their own qualitative data (interviews, observations, focus group data, document analysis, newspapers etc.) into an overview of clear and expressible findings.
