Admission requirements

To be admitted you must possess at least an accredited Bachelor’s degree (equivalent to a Dutch university Bachelor’s degree), including elementary courses in calculus, linear algebra, statistics, probability theory, mathematical economics and a programming language such as C/C++, JAVA, Matlab, Python and/or Ox. Additionally, you have passed advanced courses in econometrics and/or operations research, depending on the specialisation you choose.

Program content

Econometrics is the science and art of using statistical methods to analyse financial, marketing and economic data, often called Big Data. Operations Research is the science and art of making better decisions in economics, management and finance using mathematical methods. The curriculum features many of the latest developments in these areas. The programme offers the specialisations Econometrics and Data Science, Econometric Theory, Financial Econometrics, Financial Engineering, Open Specialisation, Operations Research Theory, Marketing Data Science, Quantitative Economics and Supply Chain Management. You choose a specialisation at the beginning of the programme.

Scholarships & funding

With our own scholarship, the VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP), we offer highly motivated students with excellent study results the unique opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree with financial support provided by the university. The VUFP scholarship is a tuition fee waiver. The Holland Scholarship Programme (HSP) is meant for students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to follow a Master’s programme in the Netherlands.
