Why study Business Analytics?

In a world where the data available to businesses is growing exponentially and corporate strategies are growing ever more complex, Business Analytics holds the key. This fascinating subject fulfils the enormous demand for data driven and mathematically sound solutions.

What you will learn
Business Analytics is all about turning big data, data science and machine learning into smart decisions. You will learn

  • how to collate, clean and manipulate large data sets
  • how to analyse these data using statistics and data mining techniques
  • how to use your findings to predict the future and make optimal decisions

The programme offers a unique combination of mathematics, computer science and business administration. In addition to challenging you academically and giving you a firm theoretical foundation, there is a strong emphasis on developing your practical, collaborative and communication skills.

A broad, rich programme

Business Analytics goes beyond the focus on modelling, optimization and theoretical statistics. It offers you a broad and rich learning experience. You will apply statistical analysis and forecasting methods, pinpointing the problems that arise in an organization and the action that needs to be taken. This makes you a versatile all-rounder with a skillset that makes you indispensable to every organization that has its sights set on the future.

Maths: part of the package

You don’t need to be a mathematical genius to thrive in the world of Business Analytics. That said, maths is an important part of the programme and you do need an aptitude for and an interest in maths to give you the strong quantitative and analytical background you need to succeed as a business analyst.

Tuition fees

Students from the EU or EEA pay the same tuition fees as Dutch students. The tuition fees for most programmes are set by the Dutch government on an annual basis and vary per programme.

When you apply for a programme at VU Amsterdam you need to pay an application fee of €100. Experience shows that it costs between €800 and €1,000 a month to live and study in the Netherlands, excluding tuition fees and other non-recurring expenses. Some students manage to spend less, but of course that depends on your individual lifestyle.

The cost of this program for students of EU/EEA countries is €2,143.

Scholarships & funding

For international undergraduate students, scholarship options are limited. However, Dutch higher education is subsidised and tuition fees are relatively low. The Grantfinder database offers an overview of all scholarships and grants available to international students.

On completion of this program, students will receive a Bachelor in Business Analytics.
