Program description

Awarded by: University of Derby

This course provides a multi-disciplinary approach drawing on sociological, political, legal and cultural approaches to the study of the Criminal Justice sector, enabling you to develop a range of relevant and appropriate transferable skills in preparation for employment. The course offers a range of tutor-led, peer-led and work relevant opportunities to develop their reflective practice and the skills needed to engage with current agendas of social and economic justice, cultural dialogue, lifestyle and environmental issues and political articulation.

This is one year full-time course. Attendance is normally 12 hours over two days a week and the completion of a study placement if you are not employed in an appropriate setting. You will also need to dedicate a substantial amount of time to research and study outside the classroom.

As a University of Derby partner student, you will have access to the university’s virtual learning environment, including UDo and on-line journals and texts, as well as to their library facilities.

There is no formal requirement for a placement as part of the programme, however, the focus on professional skills is captured through the Professional Practice module in particular, as well as within the Independent Project module. Student commitment to work-related and real world learning is, therefore, essential and you may opt for a placement model. Activity will be monitored through the tutorial process and within the relevant modules.
