Program description

This exciting course has been developed in response to the needs of the current music industry. It is aimed at musicians who wants to develop their own performance, writing skills and technical knowledge to support the recording of music and gain essential industry 'know-how' to launch a successful career.

During the course you will have a range of exciting options to study including live sound, music education or experimental sound. You will gain valuable experience in:
• performing across a range of genres, and in a variety of live settings (including venues across London)
• taking part in work-based activities facilitated by our own commercial productions company (W5 productions)
• running recording and production sessions; writing and arranging for bands and ensembles; and being a musical director.

Throughout the course you will have a personal tutor who will act as the first point of contact for advice, support or any issues which may affect your studies. We also understand how important your views are and we recruit student representatives from all levels. We invite them to regular meetings to voice students' opinions and discuss important issues or concerns to help us improve and deliver excellent teaching.
This course will enable you to develop:
• as a musician, with one-to-one tuition and workshop sessions
• writing, composition and arranging, using state of the art facilities
• stagecraft and performance skills
• recording, mixing and production techniques
• band leadership / musical directorship
• understanding of marketing, PR and promotion.
Whether your ambitions lie on the creative or performing side or whether you see yourself as more of a behind the scenes person, your degree can open up doors of opportunity. Upon successful completion of the course you can expect to go get a job in broadcast, media, professional performance or within teaching and community education.

You may wish to undertake postgraduate study in your subject or even explore something new.
