Program description

Leadership and Management, Skills for the Workplace Outreach (CertHE)

Want to make progress in your workplace by gaining dual qualifications in leadership and management?

Want to study at a centre local to you?

You could develop your leadership and management SKILLS, IMPROVE your self-confidence and restart your CAREER.

The Certificate in Higher Education Skills for the Workplace program in leadership and management is aimed at mature students (aged at least 21 years old) with work experience past or present would like to back up those experiences with both an academic university qualification and an internationally recognised leadership and management qualification.

Although categorised as a full-time undergraduate program provided by the Carmarthen campus, this one-year long program is provided at seven different centres located throughout south and west Wales. Students attend on a midweek evening three times a month and on one weekend day a month.

You will learn through participating in regular class-based sessions in a small group setting. We use a discussion-based approach to your learning, where your experiences are discussed in the context of the course. We will also support you through Skype and WhatsApp - and you will find that you will support one another.

Admission requirements

Entry to the CertHE Skills for the Workplace Outreach Program in leadership and management is by assessment of your individual merit and experience. Importantly we look for a demonstrable commitment and motivation to study.

All applicants, who must be aged 21 years old or more, are required to make an expression of interest in the program by applying online for a provisional place. This application may be withdrawn at any time prior to officially enrolling for the program.

Once an expression of interest has been made arrangements will be made for the applicant to undertake a short comprehension test as part of the Selection Process, during which we will assess your reading and writing skills.

This Certificate of Higher Education in leadership and management is part of the University’s mission to widen access to higher education. Whilst it is desirable that applicants possess previous qualifications, it is not essential. The whole ethos of this program is to provide the opportunity to those adults, who would not normally qualify for entry to a degree program.

All applicants are interviewed after they have completed an online application. All offers of a place are based on the individual’s intention, motivation and readiness to work hard to succeed in their studies.

Normally students under the age of 21 applying for the course will have at least NVQ Level 3, 1 A Level or BTEC National Diploma/Certificate or equivalent and some work experience. More mature students are assessed on a desire and willingness to learn and to develop their skills.
