mathematicsThe Master of Science in Mathematics (Laurea Magistrale in Matematica) offers a state of the art introduction to contemporary Mathematics, leading to current research issues, held entirely in English. Students can choose among several paths.

  • Pure Maths prepares for further PhD studies.
  • Teaching and Communication prepares for teaching in Italian High School, and for work in Scientific Communication such as at Science Museums.
  • Mathematics of Digital Communications presents up-to-date applications of Number Theory, Abstract Algebra and Geometry to Cryptography and Coding Theory.
  • Mathematics for Biology introduces among others the most recent methods for mathematically modelling epidemics, and setting up strategies for fighting them.
  • Mathematics for Economics presents the mathematical methods effectively used in modern Finance.

Students of Mathematics Masters Erasmus degree programme have the possibility of spending part of the time at other European Universities. Internships at commercial companies and research institutions are also available.

there are three areas of specialisation available in this Mathermatics programme:

The specialization in Mathematics of the Communications introduces the theoretical and practical aspects of modern cryptography and Error Correction Codes

The specialization in Economy and Finance studies the aspects of Mathematics that have found important applications in the world of the financial intermediation

The specialization in Mathematics and Biology studies the models used to investigate various complex biological systems. Among other, models of epidemic spread are studied

Admission requirements

Students wishing to study the Mathermatics Masters degree must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor in Mathematics (class “L-35 - mathematical Sciences”), granted by any Italian University
  • “Related” Degrees,
  • a solid knowledge of theoretical and practical linear algebra and some of its applications;
  • a solid theoretical and practical knowledge of  the basic instruments of mathematical analysis (limits, functions, continuities, derived, integrals) and some of its applications;
  • in general terms, a deep theoretical and practical introduction to the scientific method and the logical-deductive reasoning.
