Campuses in Sydney and beyond

The famous Quadrangle might be what comes to mind when you think of the University of Sydney's campus, but there are also working farms, a field station on the Great Barrier Reef, and an ongoing program to transform the campus buildings. 

Set in the heart of Sydney, the Camperdown/ Darlington Campus and its many facilities and venues can be enjoyed by everyone in the community. From the inner city of Sydney to the Great Barrier Reef, the University has teachers, researchers, and students based all over Australia.

With more than 65 research centers, 12 ARC Centers of Excellence, 15 Cooperative Research Centers, the University strongly believes in bringing the right people together in an environment that gives them room to innovate. Everyday this collaborative approach is embodied in the interdisciplinary research and teaching centers.

Global research pioneers

The University of Sydney is one of the world's top research universities. Scholars have been awarded 34 grants worth $22 million by the National Health and Medical Research Council to advance research-led discoveries and improve the diagnosis, treatment and the cure of illnesses.

The University of Sydney has won more awards than any other organization at the NSW Premier's Prizes for Science & Engineering - covering the spectrum from early career to career scientist. The University is making a major commitment to using its valuable data to improve lives and benefit society with the launch today of the Center for Translational Data Science.

The Group of Eight: Australia's Leading Universities

The Group of Eight (Go8) comprises Australia’s eight leading research Universities - The University of Melbourne, The Australian National University, The University of Sydney, The University of Queensland, The University of Western Australia, The University of Adelaide, Monash University and UNSW Australia.

Group of 8Go8 is focused on influencing the development and delivery of long-term sustainable national higher education and research policies, and in developing international alliances. 

In world rankings, Go8 Universities are consistently the highest ranked Australian Universities. All Go8 member Universities are ranked in the top 200 institutions worldwide in the Academic Ranking of World Universities from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (ARWU), the Times Higher Education World Rankings (THES), and the QS World University Rankings (QS).

Each year the Go8 spends some $6 Billion on research – more than $2 Billion of which is spent on Medical and Health Services research.
