Program description

Primary and Community Care (Community Children's Nursing) (SPQ) MSc

On our MSc Primary and Community Care (Community Children’s Nursing) course, you'll develop your knowledge and skills to care for children with a range of long-term and acute conditions. This course will give you the in-depth understanding you need to lead on innovation and change within modern healthcare.

This course meets the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) standards for specialist education and practice. On successful completion of the first year (full-time) or two years (part-time) of this course, you’ll be eligible to record your specialist practice qualification with the NMC.

Throughout your hands-on clinical training, you’ll develop professional characteristics that are greatly valued by employers in modern healthcare such as, compassion, encouragement, good communication, a strong belief in the value of teamwork and, perhaps most importantly, respect for every patient’s privacy, individuality and dignity.

You'll learn high-level clinical skills and develop in-depth knowledge, to meet the needs of primary and community nursing. You’ll study topics, including community nurse practitioner prescribing (V100), health assessment, leadership, mental health across the lifespan, primary and community care policy, and safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

You’ll have the opportunity to complete a research dissertation on an area of personal interest, which we’ll match with the expertise of our academic staff, ensuring you get the best support.
