Program description

Inter-University Master's Degree in Planning, Governance and Territorial Leadership

The objective of this interuniversity master's degree is to provide multidisciplinary training for professionals and researchers in all areas of territorial organisation, planning and management. This allows students to achieve other aims which in turn enable them to:

  • Develop the leadership skills and knowledge needed to face regional challenges and promote sustainable development.
  • Specialize in strategic planning (local development projects, urban planning and mobility) and the prospective analysis of scenarios.
  • Develop skills in GIS, digital mapping and spatial analysis techniques applied to fields such as landscape prospective planning, network analysis, geo-marketing, etc.

If you follow one of the specific academic curriculum, you can specialise in either:

  • Strategies for governance and territorial leadership
  • Territorial leadership (leadership skills)

This master’s degree has emerged from the previous Master’s Degree in Territorial Analysis and Management: Planning, Governance and Territorial Leadership, which had three editions.

Admission requirements

The master's degree is aimed at graduates in Geography, Geography and territorial organization, Architecture, Economics, Environmental Sciences, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Sciences, Engineering and Civil Engineering and related areas.

Prospective students must have a high capacity for work, critical and self-critical awareness, a strong ethical commitment and an interest in deepening their understanding of the importance of territorial issues and how these affect the world.

Specific documentation required

In addition to the compulsory general documentation required for pre-registration, this master's degree also requires that you submit:

  • A certificate accrediting the ability to speak and write in Spanish, for foreign candidates coming from countries where Spanish is not an official language
  • Documentation proving knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS). Students who cannot certify this knowledge must register for an online ArcGis course.

You can also submit proof of complementary training related to the master's degree and knowledge of English or other languages.

Selection criteria

  • Academic transcript (40%).
  • Relevance of basic training (20%):
    • Geography, Territorial Organization and equivalents: 100%
    • Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and similar: 75%
    • Economics, Sociology, Political Sciences and related degrees: 25%
    • The remaining admitted degrees: 25%
  • Complementary training related to the master's degree (15%):
    • Postgraduate studies: 7,5%
    • Other related training: 7,5%
    • Professional experience related to the goals and career opportunities of this master’s degree: 15%
    • Publication s in scientific magazines related to the master’s subject: 10%
  • Knowledge of English and other scientific languages: (5%)

Tuition fees

  • For students from member states of the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Andorra* or resident in Spain: €1,806 / full time-course.
  • Rest of students*: €2,913.

*Students who have obtained their degrees outside of Spain will be charged with €218,15 as a Tax of academic career that will apply in the first registration only (price for course 2021-22).

Students who successfully complete this master's degree are qualified to work in the public or private sectors (environmental and territorial consultancies) in the fields of territorial, urban, sectorial and strategic planning, territorial management (social conflicts, landscape, heritage resources, mobility, legal experts, geomarketing and surveying) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applied to territorial planning and management and planning, governance and territorial leadership.

The master's degree also opens doors to possible careers in teaching and research in public and private universities.
