Our founders established a University “in the North - for the North.” They envisioned and built an institution where all are welcomed, learn, live, work closely with our faculty and staff, and transform the quality of life in Northern British Columbia, the province, and beyond.
UNBC strives to provide a safe and challenging learning environment where students gain leadership skills and stretch their boundaries, not only through academic discussion and debate but also through opportunities to work closely with faculty and staff on research projects and a wide range of initiatives that improve student life or contribute to a need in the community, the region or far beyond.

Campuses
Since time immemorial, Indigenous peoples have walked gently on the diverse traditional territories where the University of Northern British Columbia community is grateful to live, work, learn, and play. We are committed to building and nurturing relationships with Indigenous peoples, we acknowledge their traditional lands, and we thank them for their hospitality.
Main Campus
The Prince George campus is situated on the unceded traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh, part of the Dakelh (Carrier) First Nation.
Regional campuses
- The Peace River-Liard campus in Fort St. John is situated in Treaty 8 territory on the traditional lands of the Dane-zaa peoples of the Doig River First Nation, Blueberry River First Nation, and Halfway River First Nation.
- The Northwest campus in Terrace is situated on the unceded traditional Ts’msyen (Tsimshian) territory of the Kitsumkalum and Kitselas First Nation. It includes a satellite campus in the coastal community of Prince Rupert, situated on the unceded traditional Tsimshian territory of the Lax Kw’alaams Band and Metlakatla First Nation.

The South-Central campus in Quesnel is situated on the unceded traditional territories of the Lhtako Dene Nation, Nazko First Nation, Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation, and ?Esdilagh First Nation (formerly Alexandria Band). Lhtako, Nazko, and Lhoosk’uz are part of the Dakelh First Nation, and ?Esdilagh is a member of the Tsilhqot’in Nation.

UNBC has a federated agreement with the Wilp Wilxo’oskwhl (House of Wisdom) Nisga’a Institute (WWNI). Established by the Nisga’a Lisims Government in 1993 and located in the Village of Gitwinksihlkw, WWNI is a fully accredited university-college serving all people in northwestern British Columbia.

First Nations Centre
The First Nations Centre is honoured to provide holistic support services to students, staff and faculty at UNBC. The First Nations Centre is a culturally safe and accessible space where leadership, academic growth, relationships, and personal supports are fostered.
Campus Radio
CFURadio 88.7 FM is the campus radio station that broadcasts from UNBC.
Accommodation
UNBC’s Housing is more than just a place to live for the school year — it is a convenient, safe and supportive community. Home to over 500 students, our buildings, Neyoh and Keyoh (Dakelh for “for the home” and “for the community”), offer fully-furnished apartment-style living located less than a five-minute walk from the heart of campus.
Each suite includes:

- Large living room,
- Shared bathroom.
