Master's Degree in Geo-Informatics for Natural Resources Management
The Master of Geoinformatics for Natural Resources Management offers advanced training in geotechnologies applied to the management of natural resources in order to meet the growing demand for professionals with this profile by companies and administrations. Geoinformatics uses mathematical algorithms and advanced computer techniques to solve problems of a geographical nature through the development or application of computer programs and mathematical models. For this reason, geoinformatics can be used for any planning or natural resource management project. The master's degree which is taught at the School of Agricultural and Forest Engineering (EIAF), at the Ponferrada Campus, offers a unique professional specialization in this field.
After finishing the master’s the students will know how to:
- Apply the latest technologies and techniques to capture spatial information: UAVs, satellite images, LiDAR technology, GPS, etc.
- Know and apply advanced GIS tools to store, manage, analyze and process spatial data
- Process and model geospatial information to extract useful information in solving natural resource management problems (water resources, erosion, floods, fires, pests, burned areas, mining activities, natural heritage, etc.).
- Apply geoinformatic tools to evaluate and quantify ecosystem goods and services associated with natural resources.
- Carry out simulations and apply models oriented to the conservation and management of the environment.
