About this program
Master in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics
The academic master's study program "Epidemiology and Medical Statistics" is intended to provide highly qualified specialists in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics at regional, national and international level, who will understand and be able to develop epidemiological, medical and sociological research methodology, to perform sophisticated statistical analyses of obtained data, and to interpret observed results based on newest international knowledge and according to internationally accepted standards.
The aim of the Program is to provide highly qualified Epidemiology and Medical Statistics specialists for the Latvian, Baltic, and other health systems at regional, national and international levels who are familiar with and develop epidemiological and other research methodology, are able to analyze sophisticated data and interpret results based on the latest international knowledge and standards.
Admission requirements
Undergraduate diploma (or higher)
Applicants for Master degree studies are required to have completed Bachelor degree or higher professional education comprising at least 3 years of full time studies providing access to Master's level study Programs.
Entry qualification
The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Latvian.
Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.
Applicants must upload education documents in original language, as well as translations into English. Diplomas and transcripts issued outside EU must be legalized with a legalization stamp or Apostille.

Applicants must prove their English language knowledge. University accepts the following international language tests:
- LanguageCert International ESOL at least Level Communicator B2 (Written and Spoken exams);
- TOEFL IBT – at least score 72
- TOEFL Essential – at least 8 points
- IELTS – at least score 5.5
- PTE General – at least level B2
- FCE – at least level B
- CPE – Proficiency/C2 Proficiency: any level
- CAE – C1 Advanced any level
Language requirements
Applicants who have obtained previous education in English in one of the bellow listed countries do not need to provide separate language proficiency:

Students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in competence to collect healthcare data, including large volumes of administratively generated and digital data in accordance with internationally accepted requirements.
They will learn different methods of statistical processing of data, SPSS, Stata, SAS, R, Prisma, GPower, as well as specific epidemiology software DAGitti and MedCalc.
Students will learn how to create/develop medical, public health and sociology related research in line with international standards, which is vital for collecting country's resultative and other statistical indicators and comparing them with EU and other regions of the world.

- Tuition fee per year - 2400 EUR for EU/EEA/Swiss citizens, permanent residence permit holders and their family members

Completion of this study Program will provide graduates with opportunities to work in wide range of organizations, including research institutions, medical institutions, ministries (eg, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Ministry of Agriculture) and institutions. Graduates will have the opportunity to pursue a PhD in Faculty of Medicine, as well as PhD Programs in other countries.
